Raiders Win SEC. Hope we don't have to hear any WBL fans whinning about the refs. Just about every call- or should I say non call- went thier way. Good win for the Raiders who were clearly the dominant team.

I saw a fair amount of non-calls, but I would argue that the refs were over-zealous if anything tonight. Regardless, the Bears looked like they didn't care for about 2/3 of the game, so they deserved to lose.

I agree the Raiders deserved to win. I won't whine about the referees. The fact that Roseville was shorthanded once or twice in the whole game, and the Bears were two men short at least twice and had to kill numerous penalties speaks for itself. The Bears I believe had 3 shorthanded goals. It seemed like everytime the Bears got something going they were back in the box. You can call it undisciplined play by the Bears if you want. I'm going with homecooking.

Dorr should be Mr. Hockey. Fun to watch. He is so strong on his skates and a threat every time on the ice. Take Dorr away these teams are pretty even. Schugel is a great d-man and stopped several WBL rushes with excellent plays. Loves this kids game. Mueller likes to suck hole and hang out at center ice. They love to flip the puck up high to the nuetral zone and have Mueller/Dorr outrace the d-men for the puck.

Roseville coachs are a piece of work. They had calls going their way all night and whined about every little icing call, offside, and non-call all night.

I thought Vivich let in a couple softies in the 1st, but made 2 spectacular save in the 2nd period keeping the Bears in the game.

Congrats Raiders.

Game

Post by HOCKEY SCOUT »

Roseville played an excellent game. Michael Dorr improved his stock immensely with a very smart and hard played game.

Reffing was among the worst I have seen in 35 years of scouting, I was hoping to see a great game and instead saw a pair of refferees decide the outcome in the first period. Hats off to roseville on being sec champs, hats off to WBL for fighting hard to overcome an obviously ridiculous situation.

powerplays on the night--roseville 9 total (2- 5-3's for over a minute and a half)
WB 1 total.

I don't care who you are rooting for wbl or roseville this was bad. The 2 refs should be out of the game.

I have scouted WBL quite a bit this year because we are watching Hanson pretty closely and I have seen this numerous times this year.

WBL is not a cheap team, there coaches seem to treat the ref's with respect during the game, anyone know more of a history on why they seem to get the short end of the stick quite a bit from the ref's.

Roseville should be the number 1 seed in this section over Hill because of their non-conference schedule from what I have seen and would have a great shot at a state title if they survive the section.

Same thing happened during the Hastings vs. Roseville game. Dorr back door trip a kid from Hastings after a whistle and the ref just went over and warned him. This happened with two or three minutes left in a 2-2 game. Dorr then scores twice when he should have been in the box. I think some of these top kids get away with more then they should have because the ref's don't want to cause a lose to a top team.

Maybe all of the top players, but not Hanson, he comes out the first shift last night completly dominating and get's piss poor call, almost like the refs were trying to slow him down, take him out of his game. He is literally beating the RV guy to the puck they mutually lock up and both fall, Hanson gets the holding penalty. (how do you hold someone behind you? ) I don't blame losses on the refs, and I won't this game, Roseville deserved to win. However, I will say the refs performance was pethetic at best!!!!!!!

The BIG question.... where was the game played.

The game started about half an hour late because it was senior night which was good for me because parking was a real conundrum, I think the spot I finally found was out in Blaine.

The game was almost an exact replica of the first game except that WBL waited even longer to mount a comeback. Roseville played the game they needed to, taking advantage of the power play opportunities, using their speed and skill to generate good offensive opportunities while avoiding trying to match the Bears' physical play. Vicich didn't have the great game, he wasn't terrible by any means but he didn't come up with the spectacular saves the Bears needed.

I may have been off on my score prediction but I made the correct prediction in how the game was reffed. When it took 8 minutes before the first penalty was called I was hoping I'd be wrong and the checking from behind call was correct though the Roseville player wasn't facing the boards so the situation wasn't as dangerous as it could have been. I've seen a lot of 5 on 3s killed this year (including Roseville at CDH) so the Raiders deserve some credit for getting the puck in the net. The 3rd period was just a slogfest and my feeling is that given the intensity of this rivalry they don't want to let it get out of hand but it seemed like they were calling something every 30 seconds or so. And still I heard one of the Roseville parents yelling that the refs were losing control.

So the game was not a thing of beauty, but White Bear's comeback was spectacular as they scored two shorthanded goals in the last two minutes to send the Roseville fans into near nervous breakdown mode. Taylor Johnson had a great unassisted goal with a rink length rush up the ice before depositing a wrister in the top shelf. Hansen was very quiet most of the game but came alive in the final minutes to help spark the comeback.

If Roseville gets the first seed and White Bear the third seed in the sections, it's possible that these teams won't meet again. In that scenario WBL would have to get past two teams (Roseville and Hill) that they have lost to twice this season. Given the way White Bear's season has gone though I'd find it tough to bet against them.

I think your analogy is fair, I agree Johnsons check from behind was a legite call, but it looked like the player turned on him at the last second to me, (I may be wrong, that is how I saw it) and it is hard to stop at that point. I would say more of a roughing call. I also agree it is hard to beat a team 3 times in one season when all 3 games were close.

One more thing, for Wolfgram to go in to the box and rail Johnson for his penalty was a joke, especially when he goes and punches Dorr in the head and get's roughing penanlty after that. That is not a good sign of leadership if you ask me.

Guess I made a pretty good pre-season prediction of 14-11-0 for White Bears' record since they finished just one game better at 15-10.
