That Omaha kid does not go to Shattuck. Couldn't they find a Minnesota kid to play on that 93/94 team?PlayersFirst wrote:I believe the player from Omaha is going to Shattuck. This program does accept Shattuck players, as they are a part of Minnesota hockey in their own way.
Even if Shattuck players are from another state, they have been able to participate on Team Minnesota as they attend school in Minnesota.
From what I have heard, the Team Minnesota program does not just hand-select players, they have a website where any player can apply for participation on one of the teams for the series.
Each player who applies for participation is selected by a panal of non-parent coaches from different levels of hockey and different Minnesota locations. If players feel like they should have been selected, they should know that they could have applied for participation on the www.teamminnesota.org website. Check out the website.
I hope that when next years series returns to Minnesota, those players who think they qualify for participation fill out an application to be selected. I have heard that the selection committee wants to include as many players from all stretches of Minnesota, but they need to apply for participation.

roster changes
I am amazed at how much the rosters changed. The 89/90 level had 9 players say no including some very strong players from Shattuck (Carle, Murray & Stepan) and Edina (Reber). The 91/92 level lost 11 players including defensemen like Mattson, Leddy & Prochno and forwards like Gardiner and Lapic. For a premier event, they sure had a lot of good players not want to participate. Part of that might be that it's a long way to go to play 4 games and probably costs a lot (I don't even know how much they are practicing before they go). They still got some nice players and I am sure they'll do well but its beginning to look like just another 4 game tournament team with the only difference being that there rosters carry more than 15 players each.

MN vs. Mi Hockey Series
I spoke with the person that runs the series and he mentioned that the series has commitment from a large group of USHL, NAHL, EJHL, OPJHL, AJHL and NCAA coaches/scouts who will attend the series.
By the way, Bernie McBain is not the one who designed the series. It is a person who coaches in the Elite League and is dedicated to helping players achieve their goals. I will not mention his name as he believes that the players are the ones who should receive the attention, not him.
It sound like this is the series that scouts really want to see. Let's see what happens the week of May 18-28, 2007 to see if what they predict regarding scout turn-out ends up being true.
The rosters look solid and I am confident in their abilities to help our Minnesota players achieve true exposure.

I just had a water cooler conversation with one dad who said his son's 93-94 team got hammered all weekend. He said in one game they played the Little Ceasar's tier one team and got outshot 63-17 and only managed to get the puck out of their own zone 13 times in two periods.
Sounds like some success was had at the older levels.

the 93 little ceasars team has been playing together for 5 years and their team did not have kids from michigan. they had about 6 kids from michigan. they also had kids from california, ohio, florida, and new york. the michigan coordinator did not do a very good job because in the 93/94 level one of the teams was the 93 little ceasars and that is not fair. they could have at least split them up. the minnesota teams didn't make a team for just the cities area.

Where do you get your information and do you really know what your talking about?
Which players on LC93 have been playing together for 5 year?
Which players from LC93 are from CA, OH, FL & New York?
Is it possible that MN just didn't have a lot of thier better players in attendence, which is why they got thier a_ _ kicked?

bottom line
bottom line..if you're leaving the state to play any spring/summer AAA or friendly tourney events..you better leave packing some players. The spring/summer circuit is loaded with talent...
On the AAA circuit in the USA, the spring tourneys far surpass the level of play found from August-March...

The list of kids I saw looked pretty good at the 93-94 level. Apparently the older teams did very well and the younger ones struggled? If they do it again next year, don't think the MN teams won't reload with the ALL the best players they can find. If what was posted is true, how embarrassing.hockey34721 wrote:i got my information from my friend that played on the 93/94 team. the whole little ceasars team has been playing together for 5 years. i don't know which ones are from those other states but my friend said he saw little ceasars player get into their cars and they had license plates from those states. i also know my friend is not lying because other players on his team that i know saw it also.

As I suspected, you don't know what your talking about and you are just repeating what your friend said. I happend to know that LC93 did not have multiple players from different states and the majority of the LC team has not been playing together for 5 years. And just because a LC parent has a lic. plate from a different state, does't mean that they do not reside in Michigan. Have you ever heard of parents moving and maybe this is why they had different lic. plates? And didn't MN have a couple of kids from IA playing for them? I also noted that MN 93 team had a strong flavor of the MN Lighting and havn't they been playing together for several years? What is the differeacne?
The fact is that Mich. did a better job of getting thier better kids to this event and MN didn't, which is why MN got thier B_ _ _ _ kicked. Tell your friend he should stop making excusses, put his tail between his legs, hang his head low and say nothing!!!!

Minnesota vs. Michigan
Minnesota should hang their heads low because they got their butt's kicked? I hope you understand that the Minnesota 89/90 teams had a record of 6 wins 1 loss and 1 tie. The 89/90 levels were the entire basis of this event. The 91/92 and 93 groups were put in place after the tournament was designed for the older boys.
Some of you are focusing on the 1993 level and that is very interesting. No, not every "best" 1993 player from Minnesota was on the 1993 squad, but the teams did have some very nice talent and this was a very good experience for our players.
The 1993 Michigan teams completely dominated our 1993's because they were bigger, stronger and faster. The Michigan players are in such a competitive environment (AAA hockey) that they need to train like a college player in order to make a AAA team - I am talking weights and on-ice training, including taking lots of supplements to help their bodies grow faster.
The only thing that the 1993 level teaches us is that the Michigan players are bigger, stronger and faster at the younger leveles and our players catch-up around high school and consistently beat the older Michigan players - take a look at the 89/90 level series domination by Minnesota.
Look at the big picture before you tell our Minnesota hockey players to take the beating and hang their heads.

Michigan (Little Ceasars, Compuware, etc.) recruits like Canada does at the young ages. They look for kids that grow early.PlayersFirst wrote:Minnesota should hang their heads low because they got their butt's kicked? Domination by the Minnesota older kids proves hockey is a marathon not a sprint.
Lesson for parents with exceptional young kids. Keep a level head. Your young superstar may not be a superstar when he/she gets to high school. Keep it fun!

Re: Minnesota vs. Michigan
Players First & Sell out Crowd-
1) My post was in response to hockey34721 comments that related to "specificly" the 93 level and the excuses he was attempting to use to explain why the 93 MN teams did so poorly. What happen at the 89/90 level is illrelvent to the post (re. the 93 poor performance) so lets say focused on the 93 level, because that was what hockey34721 and highflyer is talking about.
2) Your rational was that the 93 Mich beat MN becuase they were more dominate at the 93 level because they were bigger and faster, which is just might point, that is that MN didn't bring/select/invite/organize thier best players to particapate in this event at the 93 level and Michigan did. Our best MN 93 players can compete with Mich best players, today.
3) You say that Mich 93 players have to train like a college player lifting weights, on ice trianing and taking supplements? Whats your point here? If you want to truly excel in hockey, the off season is when all players (in any state) can make his greatest gains through on ice and off ice training, weight lifting and yes, nutrition is also a key element in musle developement and supplements are used by players who are 100% focused.
Breakout-
Not sure what your point is, but once again you prove me right as both MN and Mich had "equal opportunity" to recruit thier best kids for this event, which isn't this what the organizer of this event should be doing? Mich did a much better job at this at the 93 level, which is why MN lost so badly

'93's
Keep in mind, Michigan only has to look at about 2 team's to get their best, MN with community based hockey has our best player's spread out throughout the whole state. It might take a little time to get these kids, but they definitely are out there. Note to organizer's..... get in contact with bantam coaches throughout the state, they will know their top player's and other's from their district's. On a side note, the Omaha thing probably wasn't a great move. The team he came from struggled with one of Eden Prairie's B team's.

Jackstraw-
That would be 10 Tier I teams (Minor and Major) at Honeybaked, Little Ceasars, Belle Tire, Compuware and Victory Honda and mnay more Tier II teams in Michigan. The assumption is that all the top players are playing Tier I hockey, which isn't 100% acurate as there are many players who are as talented or even more talented and for valid reasons, they choose to play on a Tier II level team, which is similar to our Minnesota "community based teams". For example, the 2005 IL Tier I 1993 state champion Chicago Mission players were formerly all the players from the 2004 Tier II Chicago Blues.
As for the 93 Omaha player Nick Oswald, he is a very, very good player and he probably out played some of the other Minnesota players who were also there. As a first year Bantam defeseman last year, he would of earned a spot on most of our Minnesota Bantam "A" teams last year and I don't think he was one of the week links that MN took to Mich. Just because he is from Omaha, doesn't mean that he is not a very good player and just because his team wasn't that good, doesn't mean that he can't play either.

Note to organizer, at the 93 level, of the top 34 1993 born players, you only managed to get 6 of them:
93/94 Bushy Jake 1993 D Duluth, MN
93/94 Oswald Nick 1993 D Omaha, NE (would make our top 12 def.)
93/94 Pieper Duke 1993 D Edina, MN
93/94 Cameranesi Tony 1993 F Wayzata MN
93/94 Fust Xavier 1993 F Columbia Hieghts, MN
93/94 Horn Christian 1993 F New Hope, MN

93/94 Oswald Nick 1993 D Omaha, NE (would make our top 12 def.)

Sorry I have to interject. High Flyer perhaps you can divulge your list of the top 34 kids in Minnesota. I would love to know who is on it and who put it together. Second I think Oswald is an ok player but to say he would make any Bantam A team in the state is a little overboard. Last but not least turn on spell check.

Lot's of talk before the event about how this was a great event for MN Hockey.
What were the scores at each level. What actually happened?
