This result goes beyond irritating, and it occurs to me; East hasn't really won a game this year which they should have lost, but they sure have lost some games they should have won.dulutheastfan wrote:Dont know what could of happened with 4 goals in the third sloppy sloppy sloppy
I mean, c'mon guys...I don't care who you're playing, you get a team down two goals and you have your foot on their throat, you jump up and down on it. You don't let them get up.
Four goals allowed on 20 shots? Assuming that stat is right, that's brutal.
That's all I have. Anything more and I'll be stepping over the line and have to delete my own post.

Re: Randolph
Boy o Boy the guys got them self up 2 goals and let it slip out from under them not as any excuse but if randolph was there i bet he would have them skate for more that what seems to be east's problem is when they get up on a team they just milk out the clock and skate it till the end it seems not to be working anymore they need to fight fight fight till the end well from this game hopefully randolph will have them back in line after 4 streight losses that is terrible...hockey59 wrote:He was not on the benchdulutheastfan wrote:I wonder if randolph was there.....anyone know

Goaltending
The momentum in most HS games... and often times the result (when teams are somewhat evenly matched) is determined by goaltending:
Hennum was outstanding tonight...the East goalie was not.
When Anoka beat ER 4-0.. Wells was outstanding, Hennum was not.
When DE beat Anoka 4-0...the East goalie was outstanding and Anoka's goalie was not.

Lee, I agree completely. There was only one game so far where East was obviously overmatched (Hill-Murray). I'll attempt to asess some of the trends.
East's wins have all been by significant margins. None of them have been that close (9-0 Central, 6-3 Wayzata, 5-3 Moorhead, 8-2 Centennial, 4-0 Anoka).
Losses in which they've outshot the opponent by a lot:
WBL (3-2 in OT), Cloquet (4-2, en), Elk River (5-3, en)
Losses in which they've outshot the opponent by a small margin:
Minnetonka (3-2), Holy Angels (4-3). Also, the tie against Centennial.
Conclusion: East has no problem outshooting their opponents but struggles to put those shots in the net and also has serious problems in close games.
Also, they are 4-0 at the DECC and 1-6-1 away from it. The security blanket is that the section tournament is there. But if they can't go into the 7AA tourney expecting to be a top-4 seed if they lose more road games against opponents like Grand Rapids and Forest Lake, both of which are coming up on the schedule.
So what causes these trends? Who knows. Lack of someone who can bury the puck? Poor goalie play? Lack of some killer instinct, as a product of recent losses in sections? (There's only one player left on the roster who's played in a state tournament.) Probably some combination. 'm not trying to sound harsh, but I wonder what it is.
I feel sorry for them when they next face Randolph, though.
Is it time to panic? Not quite yet. They're still East, they're still outplaying their opposition, and we're only halfway through the season. But if they lose in Rapids next week, things could start getting dicey.

Not going to pile on, but I figured this was gonna be a close one. Proving once again, there is no clear cut leader in 7AA. The field is wide open, and the meeting next week between GR and East is suddenly bigger than expected. Should be a dandy, the angry wounded Greyhounds vs the up and coming Indians. This would've been a great one on FSN.

Wow Lee, didn't think you'd be that upset.
Goatending is definitely the problem. You can't let in 5 goals (empty netter) on 20 shots. Heard coop couldn't cover anything up, leaves too many rebounds. Defense was horrible, forwards had 55 shots and end up with 3 goals????
Larson is back in the hunt, someone please step up and stop the puck for the hard working ones.
Heard Lutzka is not playing with same intensity he was earlier in year, and new kid replaced him on 2nd line. Who is the transfer, any one?

Shots were 55-22 and East had a 3-0 lead. If I were an East fan, I would be furious. However, I am not an East fan so I think it's somewhat comical.
