Couldn't have said it better myself. You might be a phenomenal goal scorer but if you dont play gritty, block shots, forecheck, and hit, you won't make it to the next level.gabT wrote:How about heart. Totally agree, when Rapids went to state the last couple years they did it with hard work and grit. The forwards would block a lot of shots. In a nut shell, skate hard all game.LetsPlayHockey22 wrote:Couldn't have said it better myself. I don't know that "heart" can be considered a "skill" as the person who posed the question asked about an actual skill. I guess I probably should have thought of that too when I put "hockey sense". Heart and hockey sense are intangible "gifts" that are obviously very important.... especially if you don't have as good of God given physical gifts.LetsPlayHockey22 wrote:Couldn't have said it better myself. If we are going to talk about an actual "skill", I would probably go with skating. You can still make it to higher levels if you aren't a good skater but it becomes much more difficult to succeed.

Besides a being able to get a hot girlfriend (which I still think is the most important skill a HS hockey player could have) would being a heads up player. I've known a lot of kids with more heart then actual skill...and well they had no skill. Hockey's 90% mental at that level and if you're a heads up player you can make big plays in HS Hockey.SiouxRecruit wrote:Oshie couldn't skate...all in the hands haha..snapdog wrote:If you can,t skate nothing else matters. I would have said skating when I was in HS but the more I've been around hockey and coaching I would definitely say "hockey sense" At the higher levels there are a number of kids who can skate like the wind and have hands but the ones who I like as a coach get the game.Mn hockey follower wrote:what do you guys think?
