I'm curious if AL or Faribault will have a 14U team this year or if all their 7th, 8th and 9th grades are jumping to high school. Rumor is that Owatonna will have a 14UA team this year. Good for them, not slacking off at a B level.

When my daughter reaches 14U I will keep her there and not let her go to H/S early but I hear that a lot of Rochester 12-14 year old girls are jumping up this year. It looks like there will be players sitting in the stands because the teams will all have more than their roster limit but no JV. Such a dumb way to spend a hockey season!
Faribault will be having a 14 team again this year and they will be going 14A with 5 9th graders, 5 8th graders and the 2 7th graders.

Faribault has had a 14 team for the past 3 years...last year was the first year that hockey players from the association went to a varsity program, with the exception of Johnson who went to varsity, then back to 14s.
Faribault has 1 sr(2nd year skater), 2 jrs, 10 10th graders, 2 freshman-and 1 is a goalie.....
Faribault is young...this may not be the year, but look out for 09-10 that will be a state bound year for the Falcons.

My picks-of course
1. Faribault
2. Red Wing
3. Northfield
4. AL
5. Austin
6. Waseca

Interesting to see Faribault go 14UA. Do they play with the district 8 teams or will district 4 finally put together an A league?

I assume the 8th and 9th graders are moving up from 12U. Where are the 9th graders coming from? Faribault did not have a 14U team last year, or did they? That bodes well for the falcon future since they are young this year and will be able to fill in these 14UA girls. This should give them a lot of depth in the future. Their 14UA girls will see a lot more ice time than if they were riding the pines on varsity.

They will play D8 most likely. Owatonna only other D4 team at A level. This is district they have played in past years at 12A and 14A level. Faribault had 14B team last year that went to state tournament with 6 U12 eligible players. 14A will be good test and get them ready for varsity hockey in future.

hockeygroupie,

Hey, if you know who is coaching the Faribault 14UA team can you send me a PM with their contact info? I am the Rochester 14UA coach. Over the last 3 years either Faribault or Owatonna (Both one year?) have played in district 8 for 12UA or 14UA. Its nice to have an opponent for games or scrimmages within a one hour drive. Winona had a 14UA team last year but I think they are all moving up to high school this season.

Rocket, I don't think we are losing very many of the 8th graders to high school but it sounds like we lose most of the 9th graders. PM me if you want the specifics. I don't think your 7th grade goalie is leaving 12UA to go to JM! I think she is only looking for more ice time -- nothing wrong with that right?

Lil T, Didn't mean to whiz in your Wheaties! There is no Girls Youth Forum. Nobody in the Youth Hockey forum cares about girls. SO, 14U is girls hockey and a lot of them are in high school...

Faribault has some wheels. They looked good yesterday. Is that 1A enough to keep everyone happy?

<edit> AL/DC dominated Northfield.

I know it's nitpicking, but I want to clear something up.
District 4 U14 teams don't play in 'D8'. In girls' youth hockey, leagues are formed by combining teams from various districts, and given names like League 2 or League 4 or League 8. One of the districts will host the league. For instance, the U14 League 8 from last year featured teams from D1, D4, D8 and Wisconsin. League 3 had teams from D2 and D3. League 6 had teams from D2 and D6. League 10 had teams from D5, D10 and whatever districts Sauk Rapids and Brainerd are in.

Bmum, Yup. You are correct.

If you look on the various websites it shows the teams as being from a specific district. But, if you look at the Regionals playoff structure on the MNHockey website it refers to L8#1, L6#2 etc.

The most sensible thing said in the last 10 posts. I am glad Faribault got an endorsement from one of the Rochester Youth coaches. Aren't they the greatest? So much coaching ability. I am sure Northfield is now folding up their season.

Its so good to hear from you again Falcon 89 wait a min The Green Machine.
Anyways besides that pathetic liar I will repeat what he said last year i believe it was "if austin wins sections i will no longer be on this forum".

So does redwing still have that really good player? I think she is either number 9 or 17.

My predictions for this season is pretty easy AL. Thats as long as they play as a team.

It was great to see all the girls out at the rink this past sunday in the 4 on 4 league. There were 150 girls that showed which is excellent and I hope helps all teams here in the South. Thanks to all the parents and coaches that helped Scott and I set this up as i hope it continues to be a sucess and grow. Looking at the post ahead of mine the player from Red Wing is #11 Rose Alleva who yes is still at Red Wing and will be a JR. She is an awesome player and one of the few players whom by herself could win a game. Does anyone know the status of Jenna Christensen from Albert Lea. Sunday I was told she has a knee injury from soccer that may at some point require surgury and she was seen wearing a knee brace in town. She is signed up to play in the fall league which will hurt that team as well as Jenna is a excellent player as well and would hurt A lea's chances if is out. I hear how dangerous hockey is but I lost my #2 defensemen for the season 2 weeks ago in soccer as she was slid into and tore a tendon frm her bone in her ankle which will require surgery, for a no contact sport I see a lot of injuries in this sport. Thanks Jeremy

that is true jenna is a good player and is a major part of the team. But i think AL could still be good its just they have to play together not against each other. and that #11 is a very good player. In the section games she was out most of the time. From rumors she really is a D1 player material.

Great to see a successful turnout in the 4 on 4 league.

Hopefully the injury to JC is minor. Losing a player of her caliber always hurts.

I have seen more serious injuries in soccer than hockey (concussions, ankles and knees). I had a greater fear of my daughter being injured in soccer than hockey. Hopefully I did not stray to far of the 1A theme. I would hate to be chastised like rochester. :D No not really.

my predictions:
1. AL- good strong skills work as a team and they have the best chance
2. Red Wing- they have that really good key player and she dominates
3. Northfield is just as strong. If they still have that goalie
4. Austin- they may have lost 3. But they still have Ellingson and Wagner yet.
5. Faribault- Too cocky. But a good team
6. Waseca- maybe they have improved but going off of how they were in the past i put them dead last.

Jeff Salmonsen has coached the 14 team for the past few years, and also the 12 team years before that if I remember correctly. I am sure you can find his info on faribault hockey assoc. website.

I know Jeff from Selects and 12UA but he was the high school assistant last year. He does have another daughter but I thought she was a 12U. I'll look.

A questions was asked a few days ago but never really answered.... What is the status of AL's Christensen? If she is out with a knee, that could radically change this section.

Rumor has it she will play with a brace and have surgery after the hockey season.

Going to be a fun winter should be competitive in 1A...Too tough to predict as far as I'm concerned.
Anybody want to predict which fans (parents) will be the most obnoxious?

I talked to jenna as she was scheduled to play in the Fall League and has not showed up. She informed me that she was going to have surgery on her knee and would not be able to play nor did she think she would be back for the regular hockey season. This is a very terrible event as she is a great player and a good kid...

What an awful thing to happen to a great player. We wish her luck in her recovery and rumor has look forward in hearing great accomplishments from her career at St. Olaf.

This thread has been quiet lately. How is the Kasson league doing? Who's tearing it up? Any standouts or surprises?

The youth tryouts are beginning next weekend so I assume that the H/S tryouts are only about a month out?

I think the 4 on 4 league is going well and am looking for any feedback positive and negative so we can build on this to make it even better next year. as far as suprises or anyone ripping it up, all can be seen on the stats page of the girls 4 on 4 website at: http://mn4v4girlshockey.tripod.com/

All the girls are doing well and hope this helps the players, teams, and our section as a whole produce solid hockey players.
