Originally from the hockey hot-bed that is Mason City, IA  I was really hoping she would "move" to AL.

Awfully quiet out heeeeeerrrrrrrrreee.

One of the 12U dads has another kid playing in high school girls hockey. He said there is a series of scrimmages at Graham on Saturday. Who's going to be there? Big 9, Section 1 teams or metro teams. Will it be worth bringing my daughter in to watch?

Didn't make it. I heard Rosemount killed with special teams. Also heard the metro Giant Stars were very good. JM beat Kasson/Mantorville in a scrimmage too. Mayo was going to scrimmage KM yesterday. How did they do? Is faribault, Austin or AL scrimmaging?

mayo beat Dodge County and we did not keep score but Mayo played well and were solid. I do not see a lack and goaltending and they should be a front runner again in the Section and Big 9. coach Phillips had them working as a unit and they have some good systems that the kids are playing in and working well together. As far as Rocket78 goes with all his uneducated off the rocker posts I hate to burst your bubble but in the Dodge JM game we were without our top player and top 3 defensemen and we played all of our kids equal including a goalie whom has never put on skates until June of ths year. We did this same againt Mayo and I know they did the same thing with us because as coaches we know scrimmages mean nothing except top work on player development and systems something u know obviously nothing of as you comment about the 4 on 4 league changing to a supermite league because we went 4 in 4 out. If u knew hockey and coaching u would know that this is done to develop all of your players, getting equal playing time, and every kid should be able to play any position with any kid not set lines with kids that the head coach did not decide on. thank you for the humor though Rocket78 guys like you make me laugh and give me a good smile though.

Red Wing hasn't played New Prague. Will have a joint practice/scrimmage with Breck on Thursday.

Well said. I agree completely with you regarding the 4 v 4 league. It might be appropriate to kick all adults off the bench and just leave it to the girls to figure it out. Let me say thank you for pulling the league together and I really hope you do it again next year.

What happened to your top player? Injured?

Regarding Rocket78, I'm reasonably certain that this guy has multiple screen names (hockeypux99 and at least one other that I'll keep to myself for now). The other screen names usually show up immediately after one of his primary names gets dis'd by another member. His Rocket78 screen name would lead you to believe that his daughter does or will go to JM, but I sincerely doubt that. It's just a bit of misdirection and I'd bet that this is a southside rochester guy that graduated in '78. In fact, I'm guessing he was actually on the bench of one of the teams at the 4-4 league which explains the 'supermite' comments. The change impacted 'his' team directly. The net is, that he pretends to 'hear' a lot when the truth is, he was actually there.

Thank You for the feedback....Yes we wish to continue this league and any feedback would be great positive and negative as the goal again is to get all the players better in SE Minnesota at a cheap rate and less mileage so all kids can participate. Sara Olson hurt her shoulder and is out 4-6 weeks and two others with MCL injuries. Thank Goodness for this four on four league as this helped my other players that will need to step in get ice time and experience. Good luck to all this year.....FYI I will be the section 1A and 1AA General Manager for the NDP program for the 16 (92)and 17 (93) players so please remind your coaches to contact me with all players that fit in this age category..Thanks

May want to read some of the past posts a bit... My guess is that Mac15 is the gentleman you are referring to as the southside '78 Rochester guy...

'firecracker78" has been around forever talking nonsense. Some JM youth hockey parent. Coach G said the most important thing. SCRIMMAGES MEAN NOTHING. Out of curiosity, how did the traditional Albert Lea...Austin scrimmage turn out.

Last year AL won the scrimmage like 30-0 and claimed section 1A dominance. Then the season started...Austin swept Albert Lea and remind me again....who knocked Albert Lea out of the section tourney.

By the way, remind me again, what section does DC and all the rochester teams belong to. Get your own thread.  No stay here, the Rochester youth coaches are pretty entertaining. Can you imagine if they had to really develop a team.

Scrimmage between Red Wing - Breck last night was interesting. Breck had some girls that could really skate and are just good hockey players. I would never say that RW had the upper hand in the scrimmage, but honestly can say they held their own and competed very nicely. Top players from both teams aren't seperated by much, if at all.

RW at Holy Angels tomorrow.

Northfield at Austin tomorrow. I think it'll be a close game if both teams come to play

I am confused they dominated the section how....Faribault and Austin were in Section finals.....so dominated is hardly what they did.

Red Wing lost to Holy Angels 7-2, but was much closer than the score. Shots were something like 19-12 in favor of Holy Angels. Red Wing girls should be proud of how they played. Much of the play was evenly played on both ends of the ice with neither teams dominating to the point that someone couldn't break it out.

I would say this was a moral victory for Red Wing if there is such a thing. I'm sure the Red Wing girls were hoping for more, but should be very very proud of themselves and how they played. Better things are yet to come.

Did anyone see the Northfield Austin game? Thoughts for either team?

I didn't think either team dominated the game. Each team had times where they were controlling the play but couldn't seem to hold onto their control. Both teams looked good for it being early in the season.

Northfield seemed to depend on their goalie a little too much and the D looked a little weak. I wasn't watching Austin as closely as Northfield. It'll be exciting to see how the Northfield/Albert Lea game goes Tuesday night.

Please note my use of the emoticons. #-o
Sometimes the "sender" will use emoticons as a clue, an aid if you will, to assist the reader(s) in understanding the "senders" intended message. In the above case I used the "growing nose" emoticon to indicate that I was fibbing and playing along with The Green Machine's over the top example of how AL dominated a meaningless pre-season scrimmage with Austin last year. I think the actual score was 12-4, but that doesn't elicit the same over the top sentiment as 36-0
My use of "clapping hands" is intended to indicate that I am happy and applauding the fact that the season was only 4 days away.

Dictionary.com
/ee-moh'ti-kon/ An ASCII glyph used to indicate an emotional state in electronic mail or news. Although originally intended mostly as jokes, emoticons (or some other explicit humour indication) are virtually required under certain circumstances in high-volume text-only communication forums such as Usenet; the lack of verbal and visual cues can otherwise cause what were intended to be humorous, sarcastic, ironic, or otherwise non-100%-serious comments to be badly misinterpreted (not always even by newbies), resulting in arguments and flame wars.

What is your take on tonight's games?

Albert Lea at Northfield
Century at Waseca
Rosemount @ Red Wing

The AL/Northfield game could go either way. Either team could win a close one or its a blow out for one of the teams. 4-1

I think Waseca gets their first goal tonight, but loses a close one to Century. 4-2 eng

I have no idea on Rosemount/Red Wing, but I'll stick with the 1A team to win 3-1.

So tough to tell this early. Good luck to all the teams.

Go easy on hockeygroupie, RSI, not everyone's skin is as thick as the green machine. Groupie might still be reeling over Faribault's horrible loss at 4 on 4.
I also want to give a shout out to Waseca. They are terrible, but give them credit for still cheering for teammates until the end of the game. They left the ice with smiles on their faces...we all could learn a thing or two from that.
