Cloquet at Duluth East (12/18 at the DECC)
Time to renew one of Minnesota's greatest rivalries. At first glance this game appears to be a complete mismatch, but history has taught us that an edge in talent in this game means little to nothing. Dave Esse has a way of making sure the Jacks show up for East, no matter the situation, and if East lets Cloquet build any confidence, this game could become very dangerous, very quickly. As for East, a loss in this game would probably really get Cloquet into their heads, and the doubt would begin.
Some random series notes:
-East has not won the annual December game between these two since 2000. They are 0-6-1 since.
-East holds a 7-3 edge at the DECC since the 98-99 season. On the other hand, they have not won in Cloquet since 1999 (0-6-2).
-Since the 98-99 season, this series is 13-13-2, with the teams going 4-4 in their playoff meetings.

Cloquet barely beat Proctor in a 5-4 game, but East knows first hand that Cloquet plays a whole different game against them. From karl's stats we can see East has not won the December game since 2000, well ill say this is the year they win it....
5-0, my boy Coops first matchup against Cloquet in december will be a good one

Your series notes are wrong Karl.
Since the 98-99 season, the series is 13-13-2
Cloquet holds the edge at the DECC with a 9-8-1 record
East holds the edge in Cloquet with a 5-4-1 record
But since the 2000-2001 season the series is 13-7-2

1. I wasn't counting playoff games at the DECC (or in Cloquet, for that matter; the Minnhock archives list one of the playoff games--99 I think it was--as taking place there) in the DECC figure.St8ofhockey wrote:Your series notes are wrong Karl.

2. For the other records, though, I was just assuming the current rotation schedule has held (all games @Cloquet in odd years and vice versa) since 98. This could have changed, though. Is this where I'm wrong? Because it's the only way I could be, unless my source lies, which I doubt.
3. Yes, the series is 13-13-2, and yes, East was 6-0 in the first two years. I chose this time frame because 1) 10 years is a good, round period of years to use, and 2) That's as far back as I can go in pilfering records from Lee on Minnhock.

I believe the rotation switched one year. Im sure Lee would know. The last time East won in cloquet was the 2003-2004 season.karl(east) wrote:1. East 7 Cloquet 2 This is exactly as it looks. East is strong Cloquet is down. Cloquet has a right to be down. Great hockey town. Looks like Rapids is down as well. You know what though lots can happen during the course of a Hig School Hockey season. P.S. I would sure suffer a lot more before retirement without High School Hockey!
Do I have to shadow Pavelich again coach?

On paper, East should win easily; there is no disputing that fact. Problem is, things get weird between these two teams. I'm hoping East uses what happened in last year's 7AA semifinals as motivation (which they better have enough of already) to kick the living bejabbers out of the Jacks.
East by three.
Lee

2/10/04 was East's last win in a game played in Cloquet.St8ofhockey wrote:I believe the rotation switched one year. Im sure Lee would know. It's nice to see all those stats dug up.. I was wondering how these two have faired against each other in recent years, knowing that it was close but I didn't know it was that close. I'd have to say one of the best East wins over Cloquet was the 04-05 playoff game.. 2OT.. Kyle Micheal's first career varsity goal to win it.. beautiful.
It does look like East should be able to handle Cloquet like they haven't been able to in years past, buuuut it is a huge rivalry game, and like Karl pointed out, Esse gets the Lumberjacks ready to go for these games. Just gotta wait and see what happens!
