Marshall is number one. seriously. marshall is a darkhorse i wouldnt be surprised if they took this thing. They can play with anyone and seeing how inconsistent everyone is its all open.

WILLMAR – Don’t get too excited, but the Willmar Cardinals have won two in a row for the first time since the season opened in early December.
The Cardinals beat Hutchinson 2-1 Saturday 24 hours after dropping a 4-1 loss on Sauk Rapids.
Beating the Tigers with 51 minutes of all-out skating and smart playmaking is just what the Cardinals need heading into a rough week — albeit at home — when Alexandria (No 8 in Class A) and Brainerd invades the Civic Center.
At 12-2 Hutchinson came in to Willmar off a 9-1 win over Shakopee on Thursday and favored to beat up on the Cardinals, whose struggles to score have been season-long.
The Cardinals didn’t explode offensively, but first-period goals by Todd Gregg from out on the left wing and Trent Fader on his own rebound were just enough.
Junior goaltender Ben Leitch was solid in the nets for Willmar for the second straight night and the defense kept errors to a minimum. Leitch and his counterpart, Zak Swenson, each ended up with 24 saves.
Gregg filtered a 30-foot bullet from the side under Swenson’s glove, after Grant Schow bumped the puck to him along the boards at 8:08.
Riley Bengston’s power-play goal tied it 1-1 at 10-56. But Fader jammed the puck between Swenson’s pads at 13:31 to end the scoring.
Fader was working on a new line with Rory Schneider, who got the assist, and Jay Bredberg.
“We’ve been switching up lines to see what we can do to score some more goals,” said Fader. “We’ve picked up the intensity the last two games and getting more hits using our bodies.”
Added Bredberg: “I think we got some confidence (Friday) night. We got the feel of winning again and that led to a better attitude and got our spirit up.”
Willmar’s showed an improved penalty kill. For the second straight game, the Cardinals rode out a third-period opponent’s 5-3 powerplay without damage.

Willmar 2, Hutchinson 1

Hutchinson (12-3) 1 0 0 — 1

Willmar (6-9) 2 0 0 — 2

FIRST PERIOD – Wil: Todd Gregg (Grant Schow) 8:08 … Hut: Riley Bengston (Michael Hantge), pp, 10:56 … Wil: Trent Fader (Rory Schneider) 13:31

SECOND PERIOD – no scoring

THIRD PERIOD – no scoring

GOALIE SAVES – Hutchinson: Zak Swenson 8-10-6—24 … Willmar: Ben Leitch 10-6-8-24

Whos #1 now? It will come down to the last few weeks of the season. Who can play consistent down the stretch, and who can stay healthy. I would like to see these teams play again before the end of the season but that will not happen. Good luck to all teams, and you never know whos going to win!!

The rankings of the top teams are - Hutch 63, New Ulm 83, Willmar 99, Windom 118, Luverne 120, Redwood 121. Looks like Hutch may be the team to beat. sregit34 Marshall is 138th, I have to agree with goalieguy_14, you better be kidding. Hutch may be ranked higher because they play better teams.

im not kidding they can be a darkhorse. They beat windom twice (rather easily) beat luverne and only lost to them once because paquette played at the far blue line and got at least 8 or 9 breakaways. though i would have to agree hutch probably is still the front runner in the section.

i will agree that i think that hutch is the best team in the section....but i agree with sregits.....u never know who will win......seems like alot of teams are playing inconsisten latley and i beleive that the team that finishes out consistentantly will win the section......marshall...new ulm....and willmar have been playing consistant latley so i expect those teams to do well down the stretch.....but u just never know i mean look at the cardnals theyr in the super bowl and they shouldnt of made it past the first game...this will be interesting how the section to see who wins.

Everyone is forgetting about windom..marshall...redwood i dont know why.. they will be the underdogs and i think one of these teams will upset these great teams all of you guys are talking about... Yes hutch and new ulm are good teams but i still think they can be beaten by one of these 3 teams... :) !!

I am sorry for hurting you and your sons feelings saying that 3A is awful, but i never once doubted they don't love the game. and also, it is no "probably the worst section" it is the worst section. Hutch is the only one that will be able to steal a game at state seeing as they have beat New Prague who is supposed to contend in 1A, and they play Red Wing tonight who is in the drivers seat to be the number one seed in 1A.
