mom2galwinger,
Please note that most, if not all, the comments about RW being "a one-person show" are from the team(s) who have been defeated by RW. Some of those folks aren't exactly gracious in defeat. Sometimes you have to consider the source

RW is a one person team and they should be happy to admit that. As always people are hyper-sensitive on this forum. No one is saying that RW is a bad team or they do not have talent. Without question they ride on the back of Rose, not that it is a bad thing. If they didn't, she wouldn't be on the ice 95% of the game. No other player in the state logs that much time, which shows that Hailey understands that she is the team also. So quit being so sensitive and own up to the fact that you have a great player on your roster who makes others better and be happy you have her, because if you didn't you would be a young improving team that wouldn't be in the finals.

Good Luck at State RW.

Season on the brink transforms to one at the brink of history
By Nick Gerhardt | Albert Lea Tribune

Published Friday, February 20, 2009

At the start of the season few would have predicted the Albert Lea girls’ hockey team would be one game away from the state tournament, but that’s exactly where the team finds itself now.

The Tigers (13-14-0) will face Red Wing Saturday at the Four Seasons Centre in Owatonna for a chance to play at the state tournament and they are there because of the confidence the team has gained during its five-game winning streak.

Albert Lea was dealt a devastating blow before the season started when star forward Jenna Christensen tore her anterior cruciate ligament during the soccer season and the team started the season with a 2-7 record. Slowly the team began to gain confidence in itself beginning with a second place finish at the Austin tournament. Then the Tigers learned what they were capable of when they defeated the Packers 4-0 in the first round of the section playoffs.

That game was pivotal to the evolution of the team because it was evidence that Albert Lea could win big games.

The Tigers had come up short in a number of games against tough opponents including a 4-3 loss to a ranked Mankato West team, a 4-2 loss to Austin and a 2-1 overtime loss to Red Wing. But Albert Lea found a way to fight through the turbulent season and is in its first section championship game since the 2003 season when assistant coach Brittany Arendt was a member of the team.

Lately everything has fell into place for the Tigers and both lines have become a cohesive force.

The top line which includes juniors Lauren Klick and Madi Passingham, and sophomore Sophia Jepson has become a dangerous line. Klick has 28 goals on the season and Passingham has 23 goals while Jepson has been adept at setting up teammates for goals.

The second line of Amy Gackstetter, Mariah Leach, and Tasha Moyer has also come on as of late. Led by senior captain Gackstetter, freshmen Leach and Moyer have come into their own.

“You can see it in all these girls’ eyes right now that they want really truly want this,” Arendt said. “I’ve never seen the girls work harder than they are right now.”

Arendt was there when the Tigers fell 4-3 to Farmington in the 2003 title game and has applied some of what she learned in that game to prepare this team for a championship game.

“Everybody knows that if we win this game we go to state,” she said. “We understand that, but I think it’s more so not thinking that way but looking it as the first thing we need to do is have a good warmup.”

Keeping the team’s mind focused on immediate goals will help to forget about the implications and ease the nerves going into the game.

“I think the big thing the girls need to think about is not panicking and just playing this as another game because I think that’s what happened to us when we played Farmington in the section final because we were all so panicked,” Arendt said.

The Wingers reached the championship game as the No. 2 seed and beat Faribault 6-5 in the semifinal game behind three goals from standout junior defenseman Rosie Alleva.

The Tigers know stopping her will be essential.

Perhaps we should play the game first??
Although, it is interesting that fans/players from Faribo are SO quick to dismiss AL in tomorrow's game. Apparently they have very short memory's in Faribo.

RSI,
Looks like you are the engineer on the bandwagon now! All you A.L. people are coming out of the woodwork. Too bad. Hopefully none of you get hurt when the bandwagon crashes Saturday.

Just as Mankato West found out last night, it might be a good idea to focus on the task at hand and then worry about tomorrow.

If you get distracted, tomorrow may be a bit different than anticipated.

Wow, what happened to MW? Were players hurt or sick? Did anybody go to the game? The last time they met it was 8-2 for MW according to MGHCA. I guess that's why you play the game.

The big day. The alleged section 1A championship. We will see.
Redwing is a one man show. Us in Faribault, are the only ones that are accused of saying it? :-k All you have to do is read all the papers posted by RSI, Haley's quotes, & mom2galwinnger 's entire post makes the argument. She just does not realize she is saying it. Hint: a double/triple team on one player means she carrys the team.
Side notes:
*Hey super sensitive from DC, I was referring to Rocket 78 in his purple jersey with 1AA on the back. He is a man and takes a little razzing. ( read his previous post) "group hug"

* perspective, give your coach hubby a kiss before the Albert Lea game. He may need it. :D

Good luck to all, and let us get some respect in the state tourney.

What the heck Falcons89. Didnt you make a deal last year that if austin went to state you would stay off. Green Machine I was so getting sick of because I knew it was you and now you're back to Falcons89. Tisk Tisk. How can you lie to the forum. Shocking isn't it a falcon would lie? No.
Well anyways good luck tigers!! Beat em.

From what I hear the regual season meeting had 2 front line forwards injured and some problems in goal.

Shots on goal were 33 Hutchinson, 22 Mankato West with Hutch scoring 15 seconds into the first period. From the box scores it sounds like this game was a role reversal of the regular season meeting.

MW must have come into that game with their bags packed for the state tourney.

It would wise for each team playing today, to worry about their games at hand.

In response to the Mankato/ Hutchinson game, the Mankato coaches appeared to go with a new 2nd line, these girls were weak on playing the body, I heard the coaches kept their physical girls on the bench, not sure why, they could have used someone to tie up the body I heard the girls who played on that line during regular season were the ones on the bench, seems like a weird time to make changes.
Also seemed like Hutch wanted it way more then West, they came out on fire, West seemed tight. It was a surprise we from Hutch tought it would be a better game but West was never really in it.

No sense stating the obvious. Lets hope the coaches get the seedings right next year.

Great game for Rose and the Red wing team.
Congratulations and good luck in the tourney. See you next year.

Faribault is the greatest.

great job this season girls! It has been a great senior year to be apart of my team. My team proved to me that when it counts they can play hard. Red Wing played a great game tonight and outplayed us. They are a team. They might have an outstanding girl, but all of their girls are also outstanding. I am proud of my team for getting to section finals it hasnt happened since 2003. Nothing the forum says can ruin that for me or any of the girls. We all know we played our hearts out the whole section tournament. Fairbault you and Red Wing will be the teams to beat next year. No one is disagreeing with that one! Just make sure to keep your heads in check and play the game. Don't get caught up in the drama that sometimes goes along with being on a girls team. Remember that you are all in it together and anything can happen. I have learned to have faith in my team this year. They came through when it was the most important and suprised even me. Good job this year girls!!! It was a great year!

Good luck at state Red Wing! i know you will do section 1A proud!!!

and hats off to our coaching staff they have overcome many odds this year and i comend them for not giving up! Thanks!

Oh and congrats AL on getting academic allstate! comments about our IQ are very hurtful and now we proved them wrong girls!

You have it all wrong. It's not being bitter, it is speaking the truth. I was the one talking about the Rose thread, however I am a true believer. She dominates a game, not always with the big things. She has hockey sense that many don't. It in no way is a rip on her or her teamates, but she is the team. Anyone who says diffrent is kidding themselves. RW is a good Team, but without Rose they wouldn't stand a chance. She is on the ice 95% of the game and if I coached the team it may be 99%.

Good luck RW represent 1A well and we will see you in the finals next year.

Go Green!!!!!!!!

You are actually dead wrong, sir/maam.

First of all, my thoughts earlier were not a cut on RED WING.
RED WING is a very good TEAM. Without Rosie, they are still a good TEAM. Next year they will be a great TEAM, and will only continue to improve. Look at the ages, and look how they play now.

You are also assuming you will win the 2/3 seed game next year, because RED WING will definitely be #1.

Oh, but the sections are probably realigning again, so you might have someone instead of RED WING beating the tar out of FB.

I will say it a little slower this time so you can understand. :? "It is not a rip on her or her teammates." Again, "It is not a rip on her or her teammates"

T, be honest with yourself please. Rose is on the ice 95% of the game, if she wasn't the team, she wouldn't be out there all the time. I will say it one more time, so the hyper-sensitive on this forum don't get offended and have us locked out again, "It is not a rip on her or her teammates"

Red wing has some good young players and Hailey does a nice job. I’m sure your daughter plays on RW, so you are over sensitive, but embrace the fact you have a great player on your team. The other players work hard and play well, but everything runs through Rose, which is not a bad thing.

I'm glad you consider winning by a total of 2 goals in 2 games, one in OT, against FBO as "beating the tar out" of us.

T, take off the blinders and enjoy what you have.

Good luck at state RW

Congratulations on your great year. Your team overcame alot of diversity to get where you guys ended up. Your comments above where well spoken and a sign of a great leader. I hope the best for you in the future and again you are a breathe of fresh air as most kids/players these days seem to have an excuse or complain instead of congratulating others for doing well. You are true class act and hope there are more kids out there like you.....good luck

Hey BigT,
Don't worry about FBO fans.............they are obviously overly sensitive and defensive right now. Give them some time and I'm sure they will be upbeat again. They have to try to rationalize why their team isn't going to State and figure out a way to show that they WILL be there next year. I congratulate RW for getting to State and overcoming the difficulties that they had to deal with.

I wish this forum could end on that note ^.

All the teams looked good this year but RW proved themselves in the championship game to be number 1. If they play their hardest at state they will definitely represent our section well.
Good Luck Wingers!

I am a pretty sure that MW could of gave Warroad, a better game. Wow...MW must of been standing on their heads...sounds as if goalie really struggled for Hutch. Warroad 11--Hutch 0
