Tyler Zepeda put the young Pioneers on his back again & got them to the state tournament. His 2nd goal with 1.5 sec left in the 2nd period to make it 3-3 was huge. They were back on their heals before that goal. HM was the better team in the 3rd & especially in the OT. Congrats to Coach Bill Lechner for bringing this group of kids together after the dismissals at mid season. All of us Hill-Murray families are proud of our coach & team. This never gets old.
Lets not act like this was some "Miracle" Coach Lectner has a stable full of the top players from Woodbury, Stillwater and Cottage Grove at his finger tips. They were the top players on thier bantam teams, when you are working with talented, focused, determined young men it's not that hard to over come a minor bump in the road. Moose Younghans to me did a far better coaching job year in and year out then Lectner does, he gets results with less. You lost 4 great players but replaced them with 4 really good players. Congrats, good luck, see ya next year.

HM played a miserable 3rd period after they took the lead 4-3..they did nothing skated out the puck of their zone maybe 3 times and chiped and iced the puck for 12 mintues praying to hang on. 4 shotson net that period and one of those with 3 secondsleft in the game.. Bad team strategy in the 3rd by the man Lechner or the players. Ponies finally got the tying goal due to all that territory advantage it was about 80-20 Ponies territory advantage the last half of the 3rd....but then in OT HM was playing better skating out the puck and getting chances..then Ponies ran the HM goalie, and crushed him after the whistle, refs had put away the whistles (which was OK I guess) ....but that almost 15 minute injury delay woke up Hill light a light bulb and after that the shots were 16-3 HM total domination with the Ponies icing the puck maybe 10 times and they stopped skating...

wbmd wrote:Just an interesting fact - the last time Stillwater played in the section finals, they lost in O.T. as well.
It was 1989 and White Bear defeated the Ponies 4-3 on a shorthanded goal from Kraig Karakas about 39 seconds into the extra session at the Met Center.
great game there and the Ponies scored with exactly 1 second left to tie that game!
And as a result of the Ponies tying the game, White Bear challenged it saying that the Stillwater player who scored had an illegal curve on his stick. That's why White Bear was shorthanded.

That's got to be one of the longest sentences ever.
How Bout Them Pioneers??? A couple of months ago people were lining up to put forks in em & now they will once again see them play downtown St. Paul. Never underestimate the heart of a champion! I'm not sure many teams could overcome losing 5 kids (4 to poor judgement & 1 to a severe medical condition) and have the season HM did. Kudos to the coaching staff for keeping things together & to the kids for dealing with adversity head on & accepting different roles. The "haters" will always dislike the program, but neutral observers have stated their respect for what you have done. The Pioneer Family are very proud of you guys!
Enjoy everything that comes with playing in the State Tournament & good luck guys.

They certainly did prove that they could succeed without the four dismissed players.

On Hill's starting line up 4 of 6 are from stillwater association hockey, including the goalie. I think it's 8 total players on the Hill team tonight are from stillwater. Just think what stillwater could do if they could keep their developed talent!
Thats the problem though...Stillwater cant keep their players. With all the B.S. going on at Stillwater in high school hockey-who would want to stay?
Some kids think Housley is great...then there is the flip side. People can gripe all they want that kids leave public for private...it is what it is.
Some of the kids from Stillwater that go to Hill are going there for other reasons than hockey. Some are following family foot prints.

Been with the team all year, had a good season no drama, guess you don't know what you are talking about. Maybe the drama left with your kid?
Congrats to JORDAN JOHNSON, Junior defenseman, if my memory serves me correctly, this is the second year in a row he put away the game winning goal to get his team to X.
All the Hill haters, this was your year to knock them off and you simply didn't.
The Pioneers were very composed last night, even when on their heels the entire second period. Stillwater came out with happy feet in the first and just looked like they didn't belong there, it was good see the ebb and tide go Still's way in the second and then a good third both ways. THe OT win could have went either way.
In the future Stillwater will retain more players I think, I'd say Hill will get more players from Woodbury who are facing a daunting future of splitting up an already small talent pool. Somebody please tell us East Ridge isn't going be AA for a while.

I heard AA right away. With no Senior class! and more then likely a couple of Sophmore transfers to stay at Woodbury.
You are right janze, could have went either way. Fun, Stressful game to watch.

Sorry I can't tell you. East Ridge will be AA right from the start.

No transfers will be allowed. The enrollment boundries have been set and students must go to the school where they live within the boundry lines for at least the first two years. That includes this years sophomores.

Thanks for the input. Trust me I never knocked the Ponies...actually would have liked to see them go on.
As for the drama part....
We will agree to disagree then?

That Shughnessy let me tell you if can't make it in hockey he's gonna have a carreer in acting, that was pathetic and gutless
After watching the replay of it you could say it was a little acting on both parts. But I will have to say it was very SMART of Tim to use as much time as he could, his team was on the ropes and tired. It did seem to fuel the fire a little for the Pioneers.
"pathetic and gutless"...what an idiot. The puck was frozen, the whistle blew and play was stopped - then one Stillwater player skated behind Shaughnessy through the crease bumping him & the 2nd ran him down.

Wow! Get a clue. At least you know how hurt he was from off the ice.

alright, lets put you in the same situation. big game, youre in 10th grade, the weight of the world on your shoulders, you just stopped the puck to save the game, and someone comes in and rams you to the ice. Yeah, im sure you would get up in 2 seconds and be fine. Get a clue, and show a little class. I know youre from WBL and that is hard for you, but really, you need to know when to not type something stupid and inane as you did.
Shaughnessy's (i don't care if I spelled his name wrong) acting move and complete delay of game was a joke. Leave it to Hill to come up with a non-hockey-play tactic to change the momentum... weak - to me Stillwater is a MUCH better team with WAY more character and heart...absolutely no comparison. The Hill players that left Stillwater are simply products of a life of brainwashing, blaming and entitlement.... hmmmm, I sure would feel great inside after leaving my lifelong hockey teammates after playing with them through squirt, peewees and bantams... that's the spirit! There's guilt there... the Stillwater players said they nearly puked when they had to shake hands with their former teammates - bunch of prima donna's
wait, youre saying those kids housley cut from the programs because he found out they were going to private schools. dont point the finger at the kids, point it at the idiot leading the way
maybe if he did a better job trying to keep the kids, not as many would go.
nobody wants parents around who whine constantly about how Housley works and makes decisions... in the end every decision he's made has been all about developing the KIDS to their highest potential. Yeah, he's rolled some heads and has popped some ego's - it NEEDED to be done in Stillwater... people didn't stick around and complained and blamed etc so they started looking for other alternatives. They needed an excuse to leave, a scapegoat, and Housley has had to deal with all the whiners and complainers.... wah, wah, wah.. suck it up people.... oh and everyone loved Herb Brooks too right? YEAH, Housley IS in the same category.... he's tough, he's competitive, he says it like it is... deal with it. If you can't take it, then go to Hill... The fruits of his and his coaching staff's labor are coming forth... I can't wait for Stillwater to mame Hill next year
