Thunderbird77,

I suggest you reconsider your use of the word "threat". I don't think you realize the severity of your accusations. Emails of that nature are more often than not a product of difficulties in trying to accommodate the many requests of the participants and the nature of on-line communication; it is difficult for many people to fully express their intention and tone through emails, as I'm sure you are aware. Clearly the drafter of those emails is responsible for doing their best to minimize this sort of interpretation and for keeping the content professional. I do not think it is out of line to expect the recipient to be responsible for doing their best to remain level headed about the situation and clarifying any questions or problems they may have with the content of the communication.

Again, please reconsider your word choice and, please, for everyone's sake, refrain from making absurd comments like the last sentence in your most recent post. I am not sure what kind of gratification you get from cheap shots like that, but it is quite sad to see that side of a person; perhaps this is an indication of where the problem really lies -- an insensitive, uncooperative and quick-to-judge individual likely would interpret a stern email as a "threat".

My daughter attended CODP a couple years ago--she hasn't continued with the program for various reasons, but loved the summer she attended. Her coaches were Marci Bydlon on Sundays and Laura Slominski during the week (the summer before she got the Gopher job). So obviously, the training was first rate.
The communication with the parents on the other hand was really bad, kind of a running joke with the parents I talked to. But to me that was a parent issue, and most of us didn't involve the young girls with that--the girls just needed to show up and work their tails off.
The big issue that year was that the number of girls attending the Sunday scrimmages dwindled slowly but surely throughout the summer to the point that the last week they combined 8 scrimmage teams into 2 just to be able to play. There was a 'strongly worded' e-mail sent a couple weeks before that imploring the girls to get there on Sundays in spite of their commitments to AAA teams or softball or soccer games. I wouldn't call it 'threatening', and I think most parents were like me and didn't need to share it with the kids (my kid had perfect attendance anyway).
It sounds like the program has gone through some significant 'organizational' changes since that summer, but I assume the training itself is much the same and is excellent for the girls, if not the parents.

As I mentioned previously my daughter has been involved with CODP the last 3 years and ALL coaches have been terriffic. Marci made a point the first day of practice, you may have been late today but it will be the last time. Going into the program you know what the expectations are and if you can't commit to them then maybe the player is better suited for another program. From observation the players that have more diffeculty with this program are those that lack maturity or need to improve their work ethic. If you commit to this program or any other you need to attend all sessions because if you dont you dont only hurt your self but the others who attend as well. As mentioned Sunday is game day and if people dont show then it hurts the group as a whole. Good program would recommend. One this is for sure your player will come out of there in top physical condition if they apply themselves.

I see CADP/CODP is a TV sponsor for the Girls Tournament - nice to see them getting the word out.

Our daughter has been involved with CODP for over 4 years and is looking forward to another summer session. She loved working with Marcie because she pushed the girls every day to get better and better. We will miss her, and our daughter is curious who will be replacing her.

Our experiences with Lennie have been terrific. He is straightforward and direct, and we appreciate that about him. He isn't making empty promises - this program will make your player better. Older girls that participated in the program regret not spending more years in the program - I find that particularly compelling.

In any random pool of athletes, natural talent levels will vary. The CODP program won't take the 100th best player in the group and make them #1...but it will make any player *better*.

The track record of the program speaks for itself - look at the number of Olympic, Div 1, and top high school girls who have participated. Can't beat it.

Let me also clarify a bit - the girls that seem to do best with CODP are those who take their hockey pretty seriously. I don't mean that everyone there is the second coming of Krissy Wendell, but they are all there to become much better hockey players, and they are willing to work hard to prove it.

I'm sure for some girls, it's too much. That 's not what they want from playing hockey and that's perfectly OK. Hockey is a wonderful sport, and it's easy to play at many different levels - from the pros to pond hockey.

Yes, there's laughter and conversation between the girls, but it's not a social club. If your daughter primarily enjoys a fun, relaxed atmosphere in the locker room and out on the ice, then this probably isn't the best fit for her.

My daughter and some of the others I know want direct, honest feedback - it's not always easy to hear, but it's how they learn to get better. Again, for some girls this wouldn't be comfortable or necessary.

Does anybody know what happened to CODP? The quality of the program has 'changed'. And what's with all the boys? Originally the plan was to use boys' teams as scrimmage opponents only. Apparently that is not what's going on.....

Probably not one factor - might be price/economy, might be different coaches, might be past communications and other competing programs.....Loss of Marci Bydlon and many of the Thoroughbreds to her program has to have hurt. Also appears many girls have now moved to OS or OS Prospects which is very good or to FHIT program. The boys program is in its 4th year and has some top players involved. It is hard to now own the best girls as CODP once did. There will continue to be top girls come through CODP as it is a proven program on many levels.

My daughter loved CODP for 5 years but this year moved to FHIT in Blaine and learned a whole new set of skills - her skating, hands, shot and overall strength/speed/quickness have really increased.

I think also teams like the Ice Cats, Blades and Jr Whitecaps have now pulled many of the girls that were in CODP and competed in the CODP festival - the Scrimmage Fest this weekend in Andover was at cost and incredible hockey.
