It was a good game Stillwater owned the first period then tonka controled the rest they just could not find the back of net, neither goalie was real sharp first two periods. h2o's goalie did better in the 3 period to keep them alive. easily could have gone either way. lots of penalites some pretty lame calls. But good paced game none the less.hockeyheaven wrote:Give Rosemount credit, nice team and they came to play… their new transfer goaltender didn’t hurt either. This girl from Lakeville was very sharp. But… then again WBL has picked up where they left off last year... What do they say…“if you don’t make a change…nothing changes”. Preventable penalties definitely contributed to the loss. Hate to keep expounding on it but when they play 5 on 5 they are as good as any team…however.Hansonbrother wrote:boy am I curious to find out what happened in the WBL vs. Rosemount gameHomer wrote:Did anyone seen any games this past weekend?![]()
Not surprised to hear the score from Stillwater
Case in point, last weekend in Duluth they were arguably the best team of a pretty nice field. The only difference was that you never had to play short handed…and with this team that makes all the difference
Have to be a little surprised by the Stillwater/Tonka score...huh?

WBL took to many DUMB, STUPID, CHEAP no need penalties looked alot like early last year. This needs to be corrected ASAP! I thought it wouldn't be a problem and now not to sure. Players MUST be held accountable. Ref's were a little iffy, but a good team has to overcome. All penalties against WBL were legit. Just felt they missed a few on RM.
Rosemount did come to play and had a nice PP (2 goals on about 8 chances including a 5-3).
I have faith in the coaches and it's very early.

Rosemount did come to play and had a nice PP. Still felt WBL could have scored at least 6 goals. Players were shooting wide with 2 on 1's and 3 on 1's. Could have had breakaways if players were moving without puck. A lot of work needs to be done.

Nice start for the new coop "South Washington County Royals" understand they lost 1-0 to Andover in a scrimmage. Interesting to see how this team evoles - they have a group of players and deep coaching staff who know and can teach the game and sounds like the bar on expectations has been raised.

As a 3 year HM parent with a daughter in the program I guess I would pass this along to your friend......HM is a hockey school there is a lot of pride on hertitage from the boys side and the girls side is building forwardng - 153 of 920 students have a hockey playing desire. On the boys side 110 kids who wanted play hockey over 90 actually went out. On the girls side it was +40 this year (these are girls with hockey playing background not kids recruited to fill out a roster as it was prior prior to Schafhauser) - most of the girls come from a Catholic School background. If a girl/family wants a Catholic value based top education for a top college and wants to maybe play past HS Hockey HM is a great choice.Homer wrote:I have a question for the Hill parents: Do you think Schaffhauser is just buying his time w/ the girls program, waiting to take over for Lechner on the boys side?
A friend mentioned this scenario to me when I mentioned my kid might go there. He had considered sending his kid to hill. Any thoughts?
Bill Schafhauser would be a candidate for the boys job but his brother is already an asst coach for the boys. Bill has built one of the best winning percentages in girls hockey in 2 years but his team have not yet been able to make State. He has put together an increasingly better staff and overall program each of his 3 season, plus they do a number of unique things with guest coaches (skating, shooting, motivation - Karen Bye, Scott Bjugstad, Diane Ness....) different from any other program I know. This season will be a real test of the coaching staff starting Wednesday night vs. Stillwater.
I would guess Lechner will continue on the boys side for seasons to come - once he steps down there are a number of top HM grads and non-grads who would be considered. Same on the girls side if the job came open 1) Many would apply 2) A top candidate would be named.
Since you enroll and pay to go to HM ask those questions on the education, coaching and the program. And ask the parents in the program presently it doesn't fit eveyone and not everyone will make the team so be aware and go there first to get a great education.

Wood/ER Coop
Interesting observation Joe, My daughter played for the last coaching regime and I thought the bar was set pretty high. Strange things happen when you start playing "stronger" teams than Cooper and parents and players start to think they know more than the coaches. Let's wait and watch awhile to see if the "deep" coaching staff is the answer.
Re: Wood/ER Coop
You are probably more right than I know. Coach Shock and coaches always meant well. Agreed Cooper is not the SEC! Good luck to your daughter and the team I hope they enjoy success and inspire more young girls to join the game. It appears CG and WBY Associations are both working hard to grow and upgrade thier girls programs.missingthenstars wrote:Interesting observation Joe, My daughter played for the last coaching regime and I thought the bar was set pretty high. Stillwater is ranked #1 and 3-0 off to a great start ave. 5 G and only 1.33 GA/game.Homer wrote:Any predictions for the Hill-Murray vs. Stillwater game this Wednesday?
vs. #5 Minnetonka W 5-3
vs. #20 Duluth W 5-0
vs. #15 C-E-C W 5-1
Hill Murray has not yet even played a game so it likely will be very tough to compete.
#1 Stillwater moves to 4-0 with 3-2 win over Forest Lake

All HM goals scored by first line (2 each by the Brandt sisters and one by Doyle). Stillwater goals by King and Reiter. McKeever and Sobczak with 22 saves each. Last HM goal was an open netter. One interesting point --- HM played four lines the entire game. Game had good pace.Oilers08 wrote:Joe, Joe, details, details! This was a big game give us some insight. Goalies? Goals? Stillwater has 11 seniors - HM played 11 girls playing thier first Varsity game at Hill. HM first line of Brandt-Brandt-Doyle did scoring for Pioneers - first was a great power play tip in by Hannah Brandt. The next three were third rebound scamble goals by them. Last was open net goal by Marissa Brandt. The second line of Fabian-McDowell-Lund generated maybe half of HM shots and looked very good despite no goals - they will score. Stillwater has many offensive threats - King, Tuuri, Cartoney were everywhere and the D pinched hard all night to keep in the zone. HM's McKeever in goal gave up a kind of odd rush snipe by King. The other was a set up in the zone on a rebound where she might have been screened - she was outstanding in net for HM. The 4 line concept by HM kept the pace high (yes they rolled 4 lines 6 D all night). Stillwater after playing Forest Lake on Tuesday night played very strong through out the game and were coming on strong until taking a penalty with 3:24 to go. Many great players in this game but Hannah Brandt again stood out her ability to see the ice, move the puck and create time and space is incredible to watch.
Last year HM won the first meeting - but Stillwater won the second and the State Tournament - so great hockey as you would expect. The fun thing was the crowd was almost capacity the Stillwater side was Stillwater students and residents. The Hill Murray side had lots of students and parents - but it looked like lots of players from Tartan, WB, Roseville, NSP, Edina were on the HM side. Great atmosphere and game on the night before Thanksgiving! It was a great game 1-1 after 1st, then 3-2 end of 2 then 5-2 final
We will find out if this was a fluke or sign of things to come for HM the play #10 WB Saturday, #4 Edina Tuesday and then travel ups to play Roseau and Warroad next weekend.
SCORING SUMMARY:

It was in the 4 color program handed out at the ticket window including pictures - sorry for the error. Stillwater has a great team.hockeywild7 wrote:Stillwater does not have 11 seniors playing on their varsity. Not sure where you get that information from. Last night they had 6 seniors playing. They are missing one from an injury also.
Very good hockey game. Hill Murray did not roll 4 lines. 1st and 2nd were played very heavily with 3rd and 4th mixed in occasionally. Brandt line on the ice ALOT. Brandt can handle all the ice time they can give her but may hurt them late in the season relying on 1-2 lines. Stillwater and Roseville both tend to play 3 lines all season long.
