All the knocks on her on this board are about how the quality of shots she faces doesn't deserve much credence due to the competition that Alex faces. Well she allowed 1 goal and made 30 some saves against a team most thought would vie for the title vs Breck.

Way to go Danielle!
I believe the shots were 41-22 in Favor of Roseau. Without her this team would be average at best and would get smoked by most teams in this tournament.
Thanks for the updated stats, Ole. I beg to differ with your overall assessment of the strength of the Alex team. Granted they were outplayed for most of the game, especially in the first and second periods but their record this year against the STRONGEST teams on their schedule would indicate differently. They have only lost 1 game all year and that was to Grand Rapids.
Out shot first game against St. Paul 29-22, out shot second game against Roseau 41-22, and out shot in third game against Breck 31-13. No I think she is the reason for your state title and the rest of the team rode on her back. The Goalie is of course part of the team and there is nothing wrong with that. Congrats to Alex - a very deserving champ!!

What really makes us proud is the fact that the Alex girls remained calm and focussed under the preasure of playing in the big show and all the hype and awe of the Excel

That brings up an interesting question.

How much impact does having been to state before factor into how a team including goalies play at state?

Curious as there were significant repeaters and Roseau's first time in this past one. I suppose it really depends on the team but curious what thoughts are out there.

Subjectively speaking, because I don't think there are any hard and fast rules on this, I think it helps because the kids know what to expect. To what extent this is true depends on how many returning players you have. The first time in the Xcel can be pretty awe-inspiring. But I think an even bigger factor is how the coach prepares them for the opponent they're going to play. All of the players will have opening game jitters their first shift or two, but you hope they settle down and just play their game and do what they're capable of doing after that.

a little late on this one-
Hakopee's Emily Hanninen made 52 saves against Holy Angels in theri QF loss- Shako was up 2-0.

She also participated in the Senior Classic this weekend and had a GAA of 1.5. She allowed 3 of the 9 goals 2AA/2A let in.

One post season performance that definitely deserves some recognition is CDH's goalie, Jondal. Through sections, she allowed 4 goals in 89 shots for a .955% SP. In state, she allowed 3 goals in 76 shots for a .961% with her best performance against EP, allowing only one goal. (Some were led to believe she let in two against Farmington, but she was pulled with a 15 save shutout going with 2 min remaining in the game. The back up goalie allowed 2 goals.)

Not sure who was in between the pipes for which game, but here are the scores:

3 - MN Thoroughbreds
1 - Walser All Stars

12 - Shattuck-St. Mary's School
0 - Walser All Stars

4 - Shattuck-St. Mary's School
0 - MN Thoroughbreds

Carpenter was in net vs thouroughbreds 1 - 1 after 2 periods. Justice in net vs Shattuck.

This was 2 weeks later last year, and the high school teams had 2 weeks to prepare after the state tournament some player hadn't skated for 3 weeks ( at least not as a team). It was also said that had Walser won they
would have pro tested due to playing the same weekend as the Senior Classic and less than 4 hours between games for some players?
Tough to compete with Shattuck and the thoroughbreds on less than 1 week of practice.

Best Performance

The best Performance I saw was

Last year, Cooper vs. Armstrong.

Cooper won 2-1 Jessica Burns (Then a Junior, now a SENIOR)

stopped 62 shots (allowed one goal). Cooper was outshot 63-8 I believe and won the game.

Cloquet (CEC) Lumberjacks' Sarah Gustafson tonight with nearly 50 saves against PHM.. diving all over the place, poke checking the puck from players in front of the net and stopping a ton of great chances. You knew she was into the game early, when she stopped a Julie Gilbert breakaway in the first period.
