Do not pretend to apologize for brutal officiating some 1300 miles away, you are smarter than that.O-townClown wrote:Yet the same teams keep coming year after year after year.northwoods oldtimer wrote:This issue should be talked about more often as it is hands down the most biased location for any outside team to scratch, claw and hammer out a win. 7 on 5 like no other venue.

Hey O-Town a bunch of hicks from the sticks just beat your overpriced team on their home rink. How you like that?

Should be a great game. Pregame festivities at TGI Friday's start at 4:00. The Rapids folks already discovered that place yesterday.norcon wrote:Winning and positive attitudes are contagious and that's what this group of younger players has brought to this Rapids team. Had great coaching through the youth ranks who allowed them to have fun and play without fear of making mistakes.

Yea.....Lately Edina has become the "favorite son" of the average hockey fan and HS ref community. Damn rich kids get every break in the book. All of the hits applied by Edina players are high, late hits.......the other teams hits are ALWAYS pure and clean as the wind driven snow.mn man wrote:These were my observations from last years "tourney" also. This seems to be a consistent trait for the Hornets. Something taught?norcon wrote: The hornets have gotten away with numerous late and high hits through
the first two periods, so I'd have to agree totally.
It may even go as far as "rigging" last year's HS tournament in their favor. I'm sure the refs just wanted them to hang the 10th banner.

How about some discussion of the first game tonight...Grand Rapids and Eden Prairie? With the way the Thunderhawks have started off the season, another victory here and they're suddenly in some serious contention. Also, a question for Thunderhawks' fans. We know about Bischoff, but what other players from last year's Bantam state tournament team are getting regular time and contributing?
Better yet, come on over to the Hub's spotlight coverage of this game and have a discussion there...

Avery Peterson (freshman) and Reid Hollum (soph) are on what appears to be GR's 2nd line. They looked pretty good in the 1st period.dueling21 wrote:Also, a question for Thunderhawks' fans. There are two other sophomores listed on the varsity roster; not sure if they're getting as much playing time, though.

Comments on Edina's 4-1 win over Elk River:
Elk River looked about as advertised. They are down from last year, but Franke helped keep them in it, and Jaremko never left the ice. If enough things go right they could swing an upset in a 7AA playoff game, but they are not a top team. The myfoxhockey replays suggested the refs missed an ER goal early in the 3rd, though I don't think that would have affected the outcome.
It looks like Curt Giles doesn't know what to do with all of his forwards. I counted 13 different forwards who saw regular or at least semi-regular ice time, and the line combinations kept changing throughout the game. In his defense, that's not a bad strategy--he needs to figure out what he has, so he can settle on his best lines later in the season, and developing 4 lines gives them a lot of options. It's better to struggle a little now and figure things out by February than commit to something now that may not be best for the team. But they still look like a team in search of an identity, and because of that, I doubt they'll beat Eden Prairie tomorrow night. But there is still enough talent on this team to defend their title--it will just take smart coaching and a bit more discipline. Physical hockey has its advantages, of course, but Edina has had too many penalty problems early in the season, and with the amount of front-line talent they have, I'm not sure such aggression is truly necessary.

Well, let's see...is there a big media conspiracy to only show Edina highlights? Gee, do you think 4 sent their camera man and crew out for a meaningless early game between #3 and #14? What other media would be there to catch highlights? Do you expect MyFoxHockey to share theirs with 4 when they're tied to 9? How about the Edina Athletic Department that records all their games at Braemar? What highlights would they want to share with 4?demongoed wrote:Looks like other teams can't catch a break in Edina with the press either. #14 beats #3, and the only goal the local Channel 4 reporter highlights (is he even their sports guy?) is Louie Nanne's.
Naw, must be a media conspiracy.
