Very true, very true. BSM will, i believe, start off good due to this anger that they have from the loss against Spring lake park but as the game will go on, the SSM skill and endurance will outlast and beat BSMMNHockeyFan wrote:They're used to traveling all over the country and Canada to play in tournaments in which they might play five games in three days. Will fatigue have any effect for SSM tonight against BSM?

The Greatness is always the Best
I was at the AHA Shattuck game last evening and AHA had a number of scoring chances but could'nt bury the puck. Shattuck is so well coached and play with great discipline but not as deep compared to years past. The top line for Shattuck is very good and BSM has to slow them down to have a chance. The game last night did not have much hitting and I believe that will be a key tonight for BSM. Should be close game.

He was pretty solid tonight stopping steinhauser and the other bsm stars once and awhile. In the offensive zones he did pretty good moving the puck very quickly.ya-man wrote:How did the little Reilly kid look? The Greatness wrote:SSM 3-1. bsm....
bsm with typical sloppiness in own end does them in. they just get caught to often standing still that gives d no alternatives to get puck out of zone. it adjustment to this is almost non-existent and seems to happen against every good team they play. i think they maybe the most talented team in state but defensively they need to improve to beat the best consistantly.
riley was amoung ssm top two d with #6. he sees ice very well, very deceptive on where he will pass puck and has gotten much taller. moves puck quickly as the entire ssm team does.
judging from this game the states top 6-7 teams all could play ssm very close, all could be very good games.

Re: bsm....
I agree. BSM is always caught puck watching in their own zone and they think that someone will make the play for them ex. Daly. Shattuck was brilliant on stopping them on the breakouts. they intercepted a lot of their passes and forced the puck back into the corner causing BSM to scramble. They have to learn that they cannot hold the puck for ever like they do and also one person cant take the puck out every time as the rest of the team sits and watches him do that.cigar wrote:bsm with typical sloppiness in own end does them in. they just get caught to often standing still that gives d no alternatives to get puck out of zone. it adjustment to this is almost non-existent and seems to happen against every good team they play. i think they maybe the most talented team in state but defensively they need to improve to beat the best consistantly.

Coaching? It was a good game, BSM looked good, but Shattuck is so disciplined, re: the post above. These are things you learn in practice and playing with great coaching. Look at Shattucks bench during a game. The Shattuck team is calm and in control. The coach is always "teaching" even during a game. All these private schools have the cream of the crop to pick from. On any given night anyone can beat anyone. They are all 16 -18 year olds who excell at their sport. It is fun to watch. Too bad Shattuck is only allowed so many MSHL games a year. But they seem to get to play teams from all over the country, which isn't a bad gig either. But, man they play a good game!!The Greatness wrote:I agree. coaching?
who said anything about coaching? then you state ssm is so disciplined... where does discipline come from???????
i agree ssm is very disciplined, play position extremely well and adjust as game proceeds. bsm doesn't do that.
is it because ssm essentially has a season that last 2 months longer and practices essentially every day they don't have a game which allows them to jell better? or is it because they have a superior coach or a combination of both?
i say they have a combination of both....

No doubt SSM has great coaching and a longer season. They play top AAA North American competition, and their recruiting footprint is literally worldwide, including Canada and Europe. Assuming their recruiting is reasonably successful they are going to have better talent than any private school in Minnesota, which typically attract players from just portions of one metropolitan area. So comparing SSM to any single private school in Minnesota you do not have an applies to apples comparison.cigar wrote:coaching?

But I think if you were to combine the best players from BSM, Hill Murray, St. Thomas, Breck, Blake etc into one team they would be very competitive with SSM. Especially if you were to add 30 games and another two months to the season to give them longer to work on their positioning and systems.

bsm on its own is very competitive with ssm and i believe hill would be just as competitive if not more so.
combining those teams into one team i would have to question whether ssm would be competitive, i think the combined team would beat ssm about 75% of the time.

I guess we can't keep comparing apples to oranges. "IF's" could be taken into play for any team at any level for many reasons. It was just a fun game to watch. And, yes, I meant Shattuck has BOTH coaching and a really good team. I wasn't trying to say that coaching didn't have anything to do with it. I meant that coaching has EVERYTHING to do with it.
