Not an answer to the question, but here is a list of the schools by enrollment.
The school with the 60th biggest enrollment is in Class A. That includes having Mpls/st paul schools above them who don't have programs.
There are 72 AA teams, so it may be the top 64 including co-ops, plus opt ups. Does anyone know if there is a list of co-ops and their enrollments published?
Monticello, for example, if 72nd on the list but is a co-op and therefore AA.

All of Minneapolis schools (6,000+ students) to form 1 team. They play in the Two River conference.
I am not sure where the play in post season Section Play.
Eden Prairie High School
Holy Family Catholic High School
Hopkins High School
Minnetonka High School
Robbinsdale Armstrong High School
Robbinsdale Cooper High School
Wayzata High School
Coop: 296 "Minneapolis Novas"
Great River School
Minneapolis Edison High School
Minneapolis North Community H.S.
Minneapolis Patrick Henry H. S.
Minneapolis Roosevelt High School
Minneapolis South High School
Minneapolis Southwest High School (HOST)
Minneapolis Washburn High School
Minnesota Transitions
AA - conference has nothing to do with it.

Not exactly.formerlybackofnet wrote:It is not based on enrollment alone. The number of kids on goverment assisted meal programs figures into the number. this allows larger inner city schools that due to demographics have smaller numbers of students that would play hockey, opt to play in single A.
The enrollments are adjusted for this and the top 64 are AA.
There is no opt to A.

Bemidji did opt up, but not sure if it was in this cycle or not.defense wrote:Didn't a TC area private school opt up for the first time last summer? And I thought Duluth East was opt up as well?? Bemidji is too, remembering that their players begged for it.
Deast has opted up but again not sure if it is in the current cycle.
Holy Family maybe opted up??????
Because of the adjustments and co-ops it is difficult to tell from the school enrollment what some schools numbers are.

Pretty sure Bemidji is an opt-up for this cycle. Holy Family definitely is.elliott70 wrote:Bemidji did opt up, but not sure if it was in this cycle or not.defense wrote:Didn't a TC area private school opt up for the first time last summer? East lost its opt-up status this year with the opening of the new building and the addition of some Central students. Enrollment is now in the 1400-1500 range.

There's no such thing as "A" or "AA" during the regular season. Conferences aren't set up that way. It's only when you get to Sectional play that teams get split up into "A" and "AA"/MNhockeyNut wrote:Oh, ok. I got it.
So a “big school” can opt to play A during regular season play, but must play AA in section play.

-If you are on free/reduced lunch, you count as 4/10 of a person for the count.
-If you are in a co-op, the enrollments of all the schools in your co-op are counted.
Then the 157 schools are lined up, the top 64 based on enrollment are then placed in AA, and then opt ups are added to AA.
Is there anywhere the MSHSL has sport specific enrollment listed?
How bout this for the next change:
-If a private school has made the section semi-finals in the last two years, they are in AA.
-Opt ups in AA.
-All co-ops in A, unless they choose to opt up.
Opt ups, privates, plus the next x number of teams to get to 64 teams in AA.
Thoughts?

Any private school in the seven county metro should be forced to play AA. They pull their kids from all over whether they are in an A school or AA school. Puts the playing field on the level. Then other schools such as a Mpls Co-op can play down to A as they should....
Any takers STA, TG, Breck or Blake?

there is a Wikipedia site with enrollments for hockey. I do not know how current it is.elliott70 wrote:HShockeywatcher wrote:-If you are on free/reduced lunch, you count as 4/10 of a person for the count.
