Warroad HS Boys vs. US Womens National Team
Warroad HS Boys vs. US Womens National Team
Accordining to the cover article in "Let's PLay Hockey" magazine, the Warroad boys HS varsity squad will play the US Womens National team on Jan. 4th 2006. Apparantly the MSHSL has said that the game will be played using Boys HS rules, so body contact will be allowed (no jokes here people).

Who do you think will win this game, last years MN State Class A Champions or USA's top female hockey players. There is a poll in the "Minnesota HS Hockey Polls" page on this site.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... RLStars at: 10/19/05 12:24 pm

?
I am suprised that MSHSL would allow this to happen but if it did, it would depend on the warroads team willingness to hit the girls. contact is a huge part in the way guys play hockey and i know if i was playing a girls team i would hesitate hitting them so im not sure how the outcome would be. Is warroad even suppose to be good this year?

Re: ?
Warroad will have a good team.

But these girls are fast and crafty.

Marvin and a couple of other Warriors may keep up, but player for player the girls will probably be faster. The boys will have to hit, IMHO.

Re: girls
I have to be careful here but here goes.

3 years ago I had the experiance of working both the WCHA womens tournament and the womens world junior championships. In both cases a good PeeWee A team would have won both those tournaments. Warroads goalie will see better shots and puck movement in Marriucci conference games than they'll see in this game. Not to mention playing this game with checking gives Warroad a hefty advantage. I don't quite get who this game will benefit. Warroad loses and they're a laughing stock in the high school hockey world, they win and the US women lose whatever prestige they've gathered to date in their history.

I believe....?
I believe they are playing boys high school rules with the exception no checking.

Still, what on earth is a boys team stooping to play a girls team. Or why is the USA team stooping to play a boys team?

Re: Warroad HS Boys vs. US Womens National Team
It would have been interesting to be in on the discussions that took place sanctioning this game. If anybody has knowledge as to the reasons this is going forward, please enlighten us all.

wrd vs women
this is a bad idea for both teams...........makes no sense.....with goldy313 on this one........??who benefits??

Re: wrd vs women
The arena where it will be held. Should be standing room only.

Re: wrd vs women
Actually, I heard that both teams had made a "gentleman's" agreement (sorry but that) that there would be no checking.

Re: wrd vs women
where is it gonna be played?

warroad vs women
I'm going to have to make it to this game. I'm really interested to see how I comes out. I think I'll take the girls just cause it would be great to see them beat the boys.
The Iceman

Re: warroad vs women
If I heard correctly,

the game is at Warroad.

Re: warroad vs women-just don't get it
I still don't get it.....RL Stars you are right...the only one who benefits from this is the host to the game...perhaps that explains why Warroad is willing? I'll believe the game will happen when the puck is dropped....until then, there is plenty of time to back out by either team. NOW, if we learn this is a form of a fundraiser for some good cause, that is a different story.

Re: warroad vs women-just don't get it
Warroad needs to generate $$$$$$ to run their arena. This will bring in revenue, but it is still costly to bring in any USA team being they need to generate revenue also. I'm hoping the boys whallop the girls on the score board.

Does this count as a regular scheduled game for the Warriors or is it just a "scrimmage"?

Re: girls hockeys
I don't imagine they are doing it because the arena "needs" the money. But i don't doubt that they are doing it to get some added revenue. The Section 8A tournament will also be held in warroad this year, and that is always a huge moneymaker also. so who knows, we'll have to keep our ears open

girls hockey
I got a joke for you....boys HS with all the best players at ann arbor or juniors. The girls team will light them up 8-3

Correction: Not "all" of the best players are at Ann Arbor and/or playing juniors....

Re: girls
The Women's National team has played high school and bantam aged boys teams in the past.

They tied a bantam aged New England(?) District select team twice a few years back.

I have also heard secondhand that they played and lost to a Colorado Boys High School team a few years ago.

I am unsure as to whether checking was allowed in either case.

Having said that, I am appalled at the attitudes of some on this board and elsewhere about girls hockey. We need as many people playing hockey as we can get and I am glad that girls and women are playing the game of hockey at all levels.

Any new ice arenas (aside from the X) built in Minnesota in the past 5-10 years probably owe their existence to girls hockey, as boys hockey really hasn't grown at all in that time period.

Re: girls
Good point Mitch but I agree with those who think this game is a joke. What is the point?

Hey, Ive got an idea, lets get a 50 year old washed up tennis player who is a hustler and put him up against a top womens player and get a lot of celebities and.......

Re: girls hockey
One proven way to get better is to play against better competition. The only women's team in the world that provides much competition for Team USA is Team Canada and, no matter how big the rivalry, it would get old playing them every game.

Team USA played (and easily beat) a WCHA Women's all star team a month or so ago.

If you think of the game as a chance for Team USA to face better competition (and get some publicity) then the game makes a lot of sense from their point of view.

Warroad is either being charitable and contributing to one of our country's best hopes for gold in the upcoming Olympics, or they are getting some extra revenue as has been suggested. I would guess the former as I doubt they would clear much more than a regular high school game once Team USA's travel costs are covered.

Puckguy, I am sure you will generate some replies to that. I'll just say that Packerboy probably wishes he were young enough not to remember that tennis 'event' that he was alluding to..

Edited by: <A HREF=http://p100.ezboard.com/bmnhs.showUserP ... wker>Mitch Hawker at: 10/21/05 10:35 am
