Prior Lake Pee Wee A's - started the year ranked 1 and ended the year with the state championship. Congrats to that team as they were as good as advertised all year.

GTTN, I think your pretty close on that ranking.

Congrats to the Lakers on winning the title, they are a great team well rounded team.

Congrats to Hermantown on taking 2nd, the Elks on taking 3rd and OMG on taking consolation.

The best games of the weekend were:
Elk River vs PL in semis
OMG vs PL in qtrfinals
Hermantown vs EP in semis
OMG vs LVS in consolation game

Saddest moment of tourney:
The drive home

Thanks to Alexandria for putting on a great show for the kids, job well done!!

What happened to Edina? I thought they were grandfathered in every year to the state tournament.

What happened to OMG? Didn't reinstating #6 make them a shoe-in for the Pee Wee A title?

First and fore most Congrats to PL on a great season they proved they were the best. I would also like to add one thing in...even though LVS did not finish as good as they were expected to they were the only team to score 400 goals as a team...pretty incredible if you ask me...though that doesn't mean a thing!!

Nope. It doesn't. Still 'pretty incredible' to you though, hah?

As LVS learned this weekend, at the end of the year the teams that kept the puck out of the net are the ones who brought home state hardware

Not all the FIRE players in the world could help you out with that problem

I have to agree these are the 10 best I saw this year. The first three teams won the best tournaments so they deserve top billing (EP tourney - PL, Edina - ER, Roseau - OMG, State - PL). I would have put LVS up there but they never brought home a big tourney. After those 3 I think you could shuffle up the 10 and it would be a crap shoot, 4-10 were all very good teams.... 7 - 10 didn't go to state but could easily have made some noise but were the odd men out in tough regions.

Wondering what you all think of this group of teams vs. teams in the past few years. I thought this group of 10 was very good, it helped having the fire kids back in the mix in minnesota hockey. Also wonder if the no checking helped one team more than the other due to their skill mix. I personally thought the no checking only made for bad habits! JMO

Congratulations to the Lakers. They were a preseason pick to be #1, they had targets on the backs all year long, and they managed to win it all.
They are a clear #1.
After that things are pretty muddled.
I would put them in this order:
#2 Elk River
#2 Lakeville South
#2 Eden Prairie
#2 OMG
#2 Hermantown
#7 Edina
#8 Centennial
#9 Stillwater
#10 Minnetonka
That's right--a tie for 2nd place among 5 teams. Not exactly decisive, but I think that we would all agree--on any given day, any of those 5 teams could win. Although I do list them in the order of which I think they would:)

One thing I do know, Edina will be moving up this chart next fall. Way up.

I repectfully disagree. You just cant have a 5-way tie for 2nd. I think that myhockeyrankings.com is almost perfect with the exception of one and two. PL is the champion in 2012. Teams 7-10 have also been there with the top teams. Really nice parody at the top ten.

Yeah, I know Monsterbuck. I was being a little wishy washy. But seriously those 5 teams are all very good teams and can beat each other on any given day. Part of that is down to being 12-13 years old.

I guess if push came to shove, the order that I had them as #2's, is how I'd put them.

But watching these birth-years go through Bantams, into High School--I can't wait to see how that shakes out!! The next couple of years at the Bantam level, with checking, could really effect the studs on each team. + or -
