Burnsville (11-7-1) @ Eagan (15-3-1), 1/29 7pm

Post by almostashappy »

Game probably decides who wins the 2012-13 South Suburban Conference championship. Eagan 11-1 in conference, B'ville 9-2. In December, Cats won 4-2.

Start time moved to 7pm to accommodate Fox Sports North Plus broadcast. Also scheduled to be streamed by mnhockeycenter.com, and shown on tape delay by Eagan/Burnsville Community Television....there'll probably be more cameras at the rink than at the X in March. :)

Update: mnhockeycenter.com has switched their Tues game coverage to Warroad vs Roseau. Safe trip up there, boys!

If Burnsville wants to be taken seriously as a contender to get to state, they need to improve week to week. I don't see them improving. They lose a narrow game to HM then get blown out in the rematch.

If I recall they easily beat Eastview early in the season and just slipped by them in the rematch. Not saying that sort of thing doesn't just happen organically. But I think its a sign that this team isn't getting better from late November. Not saying they are getting worse, but rather that they seem to be static.

I expect Eagan to win this game 5-2

If Glienke and Willox get lost on the way to the arena Burnsville might have a chance. Not likely!

4-1 Eagan in a physical contest.

The comparison of first and second games against Eastview is a bit unfair, since the Lightning's Driscoll has been on fire last couple of weeks (including a 64 save 4-2 victory against Eagan). Haven't seen Blaze play since Schwan's, so can't otherwise comment on static state.

That said, how they've played in recent past won't mean a thing. Last year, the Wildcats had already clinched the conference title by the time that the Blaze traveled to Eagan. Burnsville was  hellbent  on keeping the Wildcats from an undefeated conference record, and they pulled off the upset. I'm fully expecting the Blaze to show up with a similar intensity level tomorrow night.

I think the loss of Boesser several weeks ago is hurting more than people thought it would. He was a top line producer (even though he was sophomore) and without him teams can concentrate on shutting down Sheehy and Borchardt. The Blaze will have to figure out some ways to add to their depth or their chances of making a run in playoffs is not likely.

I've seen them play 3 times now this year (albiet two against HM) and each time I've been less impressed than the last. I'll put your worries to rest, Eagan wins easily

I'll take Eagan 4-3. I believe the first game between these two had Eagan playing primarily with 3 D with there #4 sitting out a suspension. Played pretty strong defensively and one of the better games for the Eagan goalie this year givning up 2. If many penalties come into play it may be B'ville in an upset since the Eagan powerplay is still lacking.

If Eagan hits everything in sight, it's another cake walk for them. Bville will have will to tighten its chin straps to show they belong on the same sheet of ice. If they play selfish hockey again it will be over early.

Eagan walking away.

As it was with the first meeting between these two teams, I found #2 for Eagan the scrappiest, hustlingest, leave-nothing-in-the-locker-roomiest Jack Russel terrier on the ice. ....An outstanding gamer to have on the second D line of one of the state's best teams.

I'm all in...Eagan takes it all in '13.

Well, it certainly wasn't a cake walk, but it was a very satisfying 7-3 win for the Wildcats. Incrementally raised their season goals/game average to 5.70, and swept the Blaze in conference play for the first time in Coach Taylor's ten year career at Eagan.

Burnsville's chin straps were tight, but the space on their bench was tighter. Seemed like Sheely's line never came off the ice. It's telling that Boeser is still third on the Blaze's points leader board, even though he's missed the last 3 weeks with an injury. Their coach really leaned on his top line, and with Eagan's physical play they were worn down and gassed by the third.

Contrast that with Eagan, which pretty much rolled three lines all night long. Got the first 5 goals from the second and third lines, and #3 and #4 d-men. They now have 12 skaters with ten or more points. A future opponent's game plan that is focused primarily on locking out Glienke and Willox runs a serious risk of short-sightedness.

I was hoping that Burnsville would be the team to give Edina a run for their money in 2AA. After last night, looks like I'm going to have to pin those hopes on Jefferson instead.

Interesting comment considering Jefferson had to go to OT to beat Lakeville North 2-1.........Burnsville is the better team at this point I believe.........

At this point, Prior Lake has a better shot at doing that than Jefferson.

Yeah, well Eagan also needed overtime to beat LN the first time around, so...

My observation was based on comparing how Jefferson and Burnsville played against Eagan. Your mileage may vary.

We'll see about Prior Lake on Saturday. :)

Was impressed with Eagan's defensive pairings. Also liked there #2 line but #3 also produced. Besides the poor PP that persists, the one disappointment was Eagan allowing all 3 goals on the PK which was supposed to be a strength. Still way too many penalties for Eagan but at least no majors. The Cats have depth and as we all know, defense wins championships. As for B'ville they miss the injured sophomore. Not enough depth and there defense is thin though Teemu can play.
