As for the Eagan goal tender, he left simply because he didnt want to be apart of the crap here, and just wanted to play hockey, he especially wanted to get away from certain kids on the team. He didn't care who was coming in to coach, he just wanted out!
Really? Didn't have anything to do with the issues a few years ago with kids leaving for Fire and not being welcomed back to LN with open arms if I recall?
New to HS hockey and does any of this transfer stuff really surprise anybody anymore? If MSHSL is content with it they will do nothing as it seems they are.
What's happening at North isn't much of a surprise when you think about it. North has by far and away the easiest route to the state tournament. In recent years, the only two teams with a realistic chance of making it out of Section 1AA have been North and Lakeville South. With the numbers at South being down, for any south metro player who covets a state tournament appearance North is a very attractive destination. Couple that with the fact a couple of dads have long standing relationships with many of the high end south metro players forged through AAA hockey, it makes sense that high end south metro talent would congregate at North. Not to mention, throw in a coach with no real ties to the high school and a self-interest in winning for the purpose of obtaining the next opportunity. To some degree, its just the public school version of what has been going on at places like Hill, BSM, St. Thomas and Holy Angels for years. Hats off to what North has been able to accomplish and to the folks behind the scenes that have made it happen. At the end of the day, it's a pretty impressive accomplishment.
Sorry, not impressed with whats going on at LN! This is a public school and should be treated as such. Impressive would be if you used the talent you had without taking 2 Freshmen and one recruit. They have 3 more years to play!!
The difference is the Eagan Goalie chose to move to Eagan for a fresh start, he was quoted in saying "I dont care if I have to play JV!" he just wanted out! The farmington goalie was asked....There is a BIG difference!!! People need to leave well-enough alone and let your kids freaking play hockey and stop ruining the game for the kids in this program!! Its not hard! Being a good honest person isn't hard!! Maybe it is for this coaching staff, and the one parent involved, they don't know the meaning of the word "Honest!"

I actually don't care one way or another. I just really wanted to break out the violin playing emoticon
Frosty, how can you say the freshman shouldn't be playing? Look at their production and its pretty obvious they deserve to be in the lineup. There not putting up crazy numbers but very good for that age.
Only an observation!!! Last season a freshmen tried out, who is being looked at by the USHL, why did't they take him??? But they can take a coaches kid (who didn't try-out) and his best friend??

Funny. For years we had Lakeville people whining about Schmitz and how he was ruining the program, even though they were going to state almost every year (Yes I know, they're in Section 1AA).
They finally got rid of him. Then people complained about how other kids were leaving the program to go to other schools.
Now, there are kids who actually want to play for Lakeville North, both from Lakeville and from elsewhere, and the team is having arguably its best season in school history, and people are finding a reason to complain.
Reminds me of a saying… it's impossible to please everyone, but it's easy to (tick) off most of them.
So that player would be a sophomore. I don't know of any sophomores on LN this year that are even semi close to being USHL ready. Am I missing someone?[/quote]
Regardless of LN's off season acquisitions, they are still a great team. Nothing can be done about the roster at this point, so we might as well enjoy the fact that 1AA could have a legitimate contender in the tourney this year.

Thanks for the positive comment. I think you are right. Lakeville has a shot to join a bunch of other teams at the state tournament that are guilty of recruiting, playing freshmen and comitting other hockey atrocities. Such is life...if you dont like it, I guess you can always move to Eagan.
Entirely out of curiosity, does anyone happen to know exactly how many of LN's players played their youth hockey elsewhere, and exactly where (including Lakeville South)? I should make clear that I am in no way intending to inflame or incite anything or to cast any aspersions on any person, and fully understand the realities of youth/high school hockey in 2014; I'm just a distant observer who was wondering about this after LN's somewhat unexpected level of success so far this year.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe two players on the LN roster played youth hockey for Lakeville South. The freshman goalie transferred from Farmington, so I am assuming that's where he played his youth hockey.
#17, #18, #20, #21, #23 all played youth hockey until 9th grade at Lakeville South. #29 played until 9th grade at Farmington. There are 2 other players that played else where but I can't remember where so I won't speculate.

Thanks for the correction, I had a feeling there were a couple players I missed. If it's any consolation to those upset about the players open enrolling, 18 and 23 don't see much ice time (at least in the games I've been to thus far).

As a freshmen in Farmington he would be back-up on Varsity, not bad for a freshmen! But a couple of people here in lakeville sweetened the pot and guaranteed him the JV/Varsity spot, kinda hard to pass up, and he NEVER tried out for Bantams, that is completely wrong, and unfair to all the kids who are in lakeville association. For the record, the reason the Freshman Goalie did not/could not try out for Bantams at LN was because he was rehabbing both his hands from a serious injury at hockey camp in Oregon in August...30 stitches to the back of his right hand and he almost lost his pinkie and had to have ligament and nerve reattachment surgery to his left hand and lots of re-hab when he got back. He was NEVER promised to spot onthe Varsity/JV roster. Don't chirp unless you know the facts please.

Thanks for sharing. It appears the freshman did in fact earn his spot on the team.
Ron, it was not just a "hockey camp." My kid was there as well. The goalie was on the bench helping open the door and a boy hopped over and it was just bad luck.
The oddest part of this story is the the fact that these are intradistrict open enrollments, you'd think the South AD might want to figure out why so many of their kids are leaving.

I think a key component in the players' decision to open enroll at LN has to do with South's current coach.

You are correct - It wasn't "just" a hockey camp - the Goalie was drafted by the Portland Winterhawks and that's why he was out there. And I don't really think it's the North parents who a whining...don't put all the Lakeville parents inthe same boat please.
