Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
I combined 6 rankings and came up with:
1 Benilde
2 Eden Prairie
3 Blaine
4 Holy Family
5 Edina
6 tie Lakeville North and Bemidji
8 Stillwater
9 Minnetonka
10 Elk River
11 Prior Lake
12 tie Grand Rapids and Hill Murray
14 Wayzata
15 St Thomas
16 tie Farmington and Centennial
18 Anoka
19 Moorhead
20 tie Maple Grove, Duluth East and Burnsville
Benilde and Eden Prairie only teams to be ranked 1.
Those 2 and Blaine only 3 to be ranked in the top 3.
Holy Family ranked 4 in all rankings.
After that it was all over the place.

I don't think Edina is top 5. I think Elk River should be ahead of them at this point. I would put Edina at 7 or 8 behind Elk River and LN. I think Bemidji and Edina are close and the rest look pretty good.elliott70 wrote:I combined 6 rankings and came up with:

I wouldn't disagree with that.Sats81 wrote:I don't think Edina is top 5. I think Elk River should be ahead of them at this point. I would put Edina at 7 or 8 behind Elk River and LN. The computers do not always watch a game with the same perception as us hockey experts.

It was an absurd game...Cloquet was up 4-2 going into the 3rd, East scored 3 to take a 5-4 lead, and then Brown tied it before winning it with 12 seconds to go.east hockey wrote:Brown was the Cloquet defenseman who lit up East for four goals in the 2008 7AA semifinals.green4 wrote:Being a younger fellow, can someone explain "the David Brown incident" that is referenced in Karl's blog post?karl(east) wrote:Thanks for the correction on the typo.
I also agree that Tartan is on the bubble of being on the bubble, though PageStat still seems a bit skeptical. The close games with Hill and STA do suggest they could be a tough out. Unless White Bear does something significant down the stretch, I'd have no objection to them getting the 3-seed in 4AA.

This was my senior year, but the sting has now worn off enough that I can watch the video without too much PTSD. It does make me kinda nostalgic for the old DECC...even though it was a dump, there was no better playoff atmosphere in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLqaY77Mz-M

According to this ranking the DECC's replacement has a pretty good atmosphere too:karl(east) wrote:It does make me kinda nostalgic for the old DECC...even though it was a dump, there was no better playoff atmosphere in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLqaY77Mz-M

Eh, the Oil Can has its perks, but sound gets lost in it too easily, and they don't line up the student sections across from each other for maximum heckling. With the exception of the East-Rapids section finals (2013 in particular), I've never found its HS atmosphere all that great. It's decent for the Bulldogs, but the empty yellow seats along the glass look awful on TV.MNHockeyFan wrote:According to this ranking the DECC's replacement has a pretty good atmosphere too:karl(east) wrote:It does make me kinda nostalgic for the old DECC...even though it was a dump, there was no better playoff atmosphere in the state. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLqaY77Mz-M

The ranking on Amsoil Arena is spot on and the best atmosphere for sections. The do a great job with the music and HD video board. Also these rankings are more than just the arena itself, but the scenery and everything else around the arena. Canal Park is a lot like W 7th by the X. Not all arenas are like that. I've been to Honda Center in Anahiem 5 times and it is a very nice arena, but there is nothing of interest in close proximity to the arena other than one small restaurant/brewery across the street. Gila River arena in Glendale is cool because you have Westgate Entertainment as part of the sports complex. Lots of great restaurants and pubs next to the arena and it's beautifully put together. Back to MN, I've been to Mariucci twice for section finals, and the atmosphere is brutal. The large ice sheet changes the game and puts opposing fans too far apart.

Benilde can kick back until Feb 6th, at Eden Prairie. Another win late in he season vs EP could really give them the confidence to come out of 6AA easily.
Wayzata starts the Lake Conference schedule this week. They cannot afford to split with Edina if they want the 2 seed in 6AA. A loss to EP this week wouldn't kill them, but could hasten their downward spiral.
Blaine will have the gaudy record at the end. They will get to the X. They will choke.
Can you elaborate on that? I've seen Edina play a few times this year, seems to me they're missing the high end talent of years past (No more Malmquists/Hurleys) in addition to having a very green (no pun intended) blue line. Haven't seen BSM play but there's got to be a reason they haven't lost yet.

Sats, I put a little winkie there for a reason. Just saying that winning and losing is not all coaching. And to the extent it is I think you have to give Pauly some credit too. He's got his team playing at a pretty high level, especially considering they're not exactly loaded with superstars.Sats81 wrote:So because he has a young, inexperienced group and his record is 10-5-2 in mid January he has been out-coached in the games they lost this year thus far?![]()

I have the similar doubts that you do, I think they will at least be in the section final. I don't like relying on a freshman to tighten up the D, especially one I have never seen, but everyone who has watched Brinkman says he is fantastic. So that should help when he comes back. They are young, so they are learning. Lets see what happens by the end of conference play, its all about when you are peaking.HornetsFan wrote:Sats81 wrote:Agree with you on all, other then I think Edina comes out of 6AA over BSM.@hockeytweet wrote:A few random thoughts:

I know BSM is good. I am not denying that. However, they are definitely beatable. I think Edina will peak at the right time and find a way to come out of 6AA. Just my opinion. IF BSM does happen to come out of 6AA and make it to St Paul I think someone will beat them. I still have got my money on EP winning it all.green4 wrote:I have the similar doubts that you do, I think they will at least be in the section final.
