For you millennials, the definition of “Also rans” and “brutal teams” is
A collection of players that tried hard, but were placed in a bracket with other teams for a feeling of inclusivity to minimize having their feelings hurt from the bullying teams that won a lot of games, had all the hot girlfriends, and ate steak every night.

Don’t group me on that millennial list, I throw all my sons participation ribbons away but I guess I’d rather have “also-ran” teams than the Hermantown fiasco.
Also blueblood, just so you know. The baby boomers are responsible for the millennial generation since they were the parents! If a baby boomer rips a millennial (especially if it’s their own child) they are ripping themselves. Just wanted to let you know how things actually work.

I believe the Baby Boomers were the parents of Gen X and Gen Y. Not the millennials.StanleyCup55 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:27 am Don’t group me on that millennial list, I throw all my sons participation ribbons away but I guess I’d rather have “also-ran” teams than the Hermantown fiasco.

Also, speaking of Hermantown and Tier 1 and 2. They actually finished in Tier 1 but wanted to play in Tier 2. So they switched with Greenway. True story.

No. Just no. The two tier system was a disaster and there was a good reason that the MSHSL pulled the plug after just two years. The attendance and TV ratings for Tier II were terrible, as was the quality of hockey. In addition to the example Lee cited of Rosemount advancing to the 1993 final, the two champions were tradition-rich Greenway and Eveleth, who both were essentially embarrassed to be participating in the tourney and do not display the trophies prominently. There is an article discussing these events that has been linked several times in other threads, but I am too lazy to look it up right now.StanleyCup55 wrote: ↑Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:27 am Don’t group me on that millennial list, I throw all my sons participation ribbons away but I guess I’d rather have “also-ran” teams than the Hermantown fiasco.

I remember when a Greenway player was asked how he felt he said I don’t know. I’m not sure what we won. That’s why they traded the number 9 seed to Hermantown for the #8 seed so they could play in Tier I. They got blasted by Cloquet in the QF but the players and community would rather lose in Tier I than go to State in Tier II.
