Really!? I think Stillwater has looked impressive. I could see them winning. While I'd like to see Moorhead finally win one, I wouldn't be sad if Stillwater won. Believe me. Hopefully I'm wrong. Some might get pumped if Moorhead finally wins it, but Stillwater winning it and that's like a pipe dream.Mite-dad wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 12:04 amReally!? I think Stillwater has been the most impressive team in the tourney. Just top to bottom, very complete. If they slow down Moorhead enough, they can pull off the W and the championship.Mite-dad wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 12:04 amReally!? I think Stillwater has looked impressive. I could see them winning. I honestly think the state championship was won last week at Aldrich. That was one of the best games of the year and the goalie living in Vanek’s basement looks unbeatable. I think it’ll be another close game, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Stillwater didn’t give up a goal the entire tournament.Nostalgic Nerd wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 12:09 amBelieve me. Re: AA SF Game- #1 Moorhead vs #5 Edina
I had the same thought last night, that it may well be the state championship was at Aldrich 8 days ago.
It's tough to see the Andover goalie blanking the Spuds, especially if the Spuds get two power plays. I really don't think the Andover goalie has been tested yet.
As I had stated, Stillwater got a better bracket than Moorhead. It was the late season STA that showed up, not the first half Cadets that looked so sharp. And while Strobel is an experienced coach, he's not coached high school kids before, nor had a team in the tournament. There's a lot of logistics to managing your team during tournament week, as well the in-game aspect. So while Stillwater has looked great, and should be fresh tonight, they haven't been tested much.
Moorhead has been an odd team since they coughed up 7 regulation goals to Hill. Giving up 4 to Lake South is not a good look, and they let Edina get two leads on them, I'm thinking that if it's a shootout, that favors the Spuds, and it's tough to see a shootout with the Andover goalie. If it's closer, I'd favor Stillwater. The Spuds can't get down 2-0 in the first tonight. They need a fast offensive start.
As for my own selfish interests, I don't need to see another East Metro team hang a banner, and I'm good with the Spuds finally winning it all. If they don't, man, that will just be a crushing defeat for that program.
Some years back there was a player that had spent enough time on both World Serious teams that he would win a share of the money no matter which team won. Similarly, the Andover goalie could still graduate with his former Husky teammates.
As for the Vanek basement, well, the economy is tanking and a lot more of us make be going the AirBnB route. Maybe I could host a Russian emigre who just happens to play hockey and is looking for a great Catholic high school education. Because at Hill, we don't rebuild, we just re-load.

Personally it was nice to see another team win section 4AA for the 2nd year in row. I detect some sour grapes in your post. Hill will be back next year and who knows maybe they will make it three in a row.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 7:49 am I had the same thought last night, that it may well be the state championship was at Aldrich 8 days ago.

Eh, I think the Stillwater Rec is a better place to hang Class A banners. It's just tough to imagine an SEC team winning a title.SEC Scotty wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 9:11 amPersonally it was nice to see another team win section 4AA for the 2nd year in row. I’m sure we’d be hearing a lot less complaining from a certain contingent on this forum if the Andover goalie chose to pursue a private catholic education in maplewood rather than enroll in Stillwater public schools

I might be dating myself here but am I the only one that sees flashbacks to 2004? Moorhead had a very good team. Centennial came into the championship off of two shutouts where it looked like you would need a literal wrecking ball to get through that defensive wall. Funny enough, that Centennial team got by Hill Murray in the section final that year. Fast forward to this year and we have another very good Moorhead team against a Stillwater team that took out Hill Murray in the section final, and to me has looked like no one has even gotten close to putting one in the net through two games. It seemed to me as if St. Thomas had no chance with every shot last night. Reminiscent of 2004. It almost seems like history repeating itself with 51 more minutes to go. There is pointing it out and then there is pointing it out. There is also pointing it out from the side of tons of state tournament success compared to the side of almost non-existent success. I think someone mentioned sour grapes earlier in this thread. Sour grapes can be had by all. There is almost something more satisfying when these sour grapes come from the higher ranks than from the lower ranks.East Side Pioneer Guy wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 1:34 pmWe like to point out when the public school pot calls the private school kettle black.ryguyMN wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 12:04 pmLOL. What I am curious about that maybe I missed somewhere along the way is why did Conway (AKA the Andover goalie) end up leaving Andover for Stillwater? Andover is a state tournament staple the last how many years and doesn't have to get by a Hill Murray to get to state. Andover also has a recent title. And didn't Andover have a Conway kid (maybe brother?) that was a big part in the recent title run? Why leave?

Edina 4, STA 3 final.
Always enjoy the speedsters. That #10 for Edina can zip around.

Talk is that he was at best going to split time in goal. I find this hard to believe. Andover's goaltending this year was good, not great while Conway is a stud.dherman8 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 08, 2025 4:28 pmThere is pointing it out and then there is pointing it out.
