Like it was mentioned... goalies have a bad night... any one of the goalies mentioned or those that have save percentages above .92 and/or GAA under 3 are all very good goalies.

I for one remember playing a goalie that ended up D1, the goalie had 45-50 saves and shut us out! His squad only managed about 15-20 shots, but scored 5! The goalie we had in wasn't D1 caliber(had a bad night), but the soph. on the bench was...What stats don't tell you is the quality of saves being made, power play shot/goal attempts, etc. I'm sure we left that goalie with a bruised midsection! ...because we got shots on goal, but never really challenged him.

When it gets to this point, a goalie should have his technique down at 17-18 years old. I truely believe it becomes MENTAL for goaltenders, from HS on. Moreso than other positions.

I could not have summed it better!!

after reid blew it last night against stillwater, i think nate hardy from hermantown is definately the top goalie in the state. hardy faces numerous quality teams and is a big reason why hermantown is undefeated and definately one of the top contenders for the state tournament. i hope some D-1 teams have their eyes on this kid cause he definately doesn't get the credit he deserves!

k 1, ellingson didnt blow the game because its always hard to win when you dont score and 2, every goalie has an off game

going off the stats these guys have, and taking into consideration the team they have in front of them plus the schedule each guy plays..Id rank them like this..

1. Yumu
2. Hjelle
3. Ellingson
4. Howe
i agree with the way you're judging goalies with the exception of one. the schedule they play has very little to do with one key stat and thats save% because if they play a worse team they don't rack up alot of saves so each shot they get is critical while if they play a ranked team they might get scored on more but they're also getting peppered.

I respect your opinion, but I do disagree 100%...by the way you describe it....20 shots from players on a team like AHA is no different than seeing 20 shots from a lowly single A team.

just throwing a name out there Eric Kupka for Rogers he has 9 shutouts and 32 ga in 24 games. I know a lot of people say Rogers plays a weak schedule but someone told me 9 shutouts in a season might be a state record could be wrong. So if it is a state record there had to be other goalies that are good that played weak schedules and did not accomplish what he has. Go ahead let me know if I am crazy.

Is that a joke? Reid let five goals in against Stillwater, and at least 3 of them were bad goals. And against Grand Rapids last year in play offs. He let in 2 of the worst goals I have ever seen a high school goalie let in. And expecially in play offs.

So twice in his career he has let in 4 and 5...how about the other games? Find me a goalie who has never let in 5 goals in a game.

Couldn't agree more with your statement Boblee. I'd take Reid on my team any day. You gotta like how he (Reid) came back against Brainerd the other night with a 3-0 shutout, despite CEC being outshot 32-22. That's what you'd like to see in a goaltender. He can have an offnight , put that behind him, and come right back and have a stellar performance to help his team win a game. Oh yeah, congrat's to Reid being FSN's player of the week! =D>

No doubt, Brady Hjelle's gotta be considered one of the top goalies. Though, he maybe needs to move on next year to bigger challenges.

On an unrelated note.......although it's early, I see www.section7hockey.com is a little over $100 short on it's fundraiser. I'm sure some of ya can spare an extra 5 bucks to help them out before they gotta beg, borrow or steal to keep their site up! Power92....how bout it? Maybe you can get steelers33 to help out.

Top 5 Tenders

Post by Stateofhcky76 »

After observing HS and OTHER Elite play over the last couple of years I would rank as follows;

1.) Reid Ellingson - FB Award and consistent high level play
1.) Mark Guggenberger - raw talent!
3.) Hakan Yumusaklar = .915 average SOG per game 37.68. Great quickness, angles, and upside! Interesting to see if he plays another year of HS or goes to juniors?
4.) Ben Hause - Consistent high level HS and Elite play for 2.5 years!
4.) Bradly Hjelle - Great HS year with a great deal of upside.
6.) Ben Leis – Another very good HS year!

To ALL good luck in Sections and "THE TOURNAMENT".
