He didn't get drafted because he is a below average Goalie!! It's not a case of scouts missing him, he just is not very good. He played on a great team this year, and they did not give up alot of scoring chances. Simple.

Sure sounds like he really impressed the NHL brass. What a great article. I remember watching this kid as a Sophmore at Hastings. If you would of told me that he would be at the NHL combine with the top 70 kids in North America, I would of said no way. What a great decision it was to go to Shattuck!...

Wow!!!

This game was not even close. The shots were 51-9, the game was played in the AHA end the whole game. Holy had 8 shots in the first, one in the second and zero in the third. To hold a team to one shot in the last 2 periods is impressive. Shattuck gave up 11 to BSM and 9 to Holy. Thats 20 shots all w...

Could get ugly!!!

Shattuck has a very good team this year, this one could get ugly. I think the Bergland line is playing very well, but Shattuck has 4 lines that can score, if you look at there stats, other than there top 3 guys (Toews, Stepan and Murray) they are pretty balanced in there scoring. Should be a good ti...

Gordie it looks like your getting beat up. I agree with Secord, You might want to step aside on this one. This is a touchy subject in Hastings. It sounds to me that the run for the Welch boys is over. Maybe it's time for Welches to leave.

Cancer spreads

The kid has been Cancer since his Sophmore year. Why let him hang around. If I am coaching that team there is no way he is my Captain, no way he is on the bench taking stats, and no way he plays after his third offense. The wrong message was sent to the team here. It's ok to get caught three times v...

Welch loses another player in Hastings

Pretty soon there will be no one left at Hastings to coach. Why is every one leaving or quiting this hockey program? This program has been so good for so long. Is it time for Russ Welch to leave?

It's a 90 Tourney that the 91 team plays in every year. Every year Team USA adds 6-7 90 birthyears to play in it. I know they did the same thing last year with a couple of kids. Never the less it should be a great expierence for all the Minnesota kids. Who else is going other than Stepan.

The kid at STA is Ryan Stepan he is Brads nephew, he also left after his Sophmore year at Hastings. Not sure why they both left but they did.

Derek Stepan

It is Brad Stepans son, he left Hastings after his Sophmore year. I just looked on the Shattuck web site looks like he is having a great year. He has almost 70 points in 34 games. Congrats to him, I'm sure he will represent the USA team well. Who else made it from Minnesota?

Headed to Wiscinsin

I talked to his dad yesterday, he told me that Jake is going next year for sure. He also said that Derek Stepan from Hastings, and Jordy Murray of Shattuck will also report there as true Freshman. This is not easy to do. Congrats to all three.

Hickey???

Is Hickey even going to Wisconsin next year. I had heard that they were not happy with him? They have so many good players coming there, is there room for him. They have Murray, Stepan and Monpetit from Shattuck., Gardiner from Tonka. Has anyone heard which of these guys are going next year?

What a line

I remember about 5-6 years ago We played against the Minnesota Rockets and the line at the time was Danny Matson Jake Gardiner and Derek Stepan. We loved beating the Rockets but these 3 forwards were fun to watch.

Woodbury

This team is no good. They have lost to some really bad teams. Every year I hear this is the year. The lost to Hastings did it for me. I hear next year they are going to be really good. A bad team in a bad Conference.

conference is way down

There is one good team in the SEC and it's WBL. Roseville has no goaltending, Woodbury just got beat by Hastings. This is as bad as I have seen this conference in many years. There are 3 good players in the conference. Mueller, Boher, Eddy. Thats it.

Un sung Hero

It was nice to see Ryan Stepan get a big goal for that STA Team. This kid gets no glory for a job well done. Night in and night out he the steadiest D-man they have. Way to go kid, it was a big goal.

Best Duo

This one is very easy it's Derek Stepan and David Toews from Shattuck. They both have over 50 points in 26 games playing against way better players than Minnesota high school players. You should see these two kids move it on the Power Play. I watched about 10 of there Elite games. It is fun to watch.
