I would think a big difference in varsity vs. junior gold play would be overall conditioning. I suppose workouts vary among teams, but I would guess the committment level and ice time might be less at jr. gold. Third periods might belong to the better conditioned teams.

Apologies for the poor effort at humor

I apologize for the poor effort at humor. Just seems strange that the new conference took the opportunity presented by the MSHSL action to essentially kick EP out of the Lake Conference. Same results could have been achieved by negotiating a division system or realignment in the schools to a ...

Breezers or bloomers?

Is there any truth to the rumor that the new "South Suburban" conference will require their boys hockey teams to wear skirts instead of breezers next year, so that they can show what they've got?

May be started with new conference discussions

Sounds like a chain being yanked, but it may have been related to the ongoing discussions about what to do with the teams from the disbanding Classic Lake (Tonka, Hopkins, Edina and Wayzata) who have not found new conference homes. The MSHSL is in discussions about placing them in one or more league...

One advantage Jefferson will have is as the home team/higher seed they will get the last change for each line change. Ordinarily that may not make much difference but when trying to hold down that big first line it may reduce the likelihood of getting caught with Edina's first line out there against...

Except for the fact that Benilde was the better overall team in this game, I can't see how one could conclude Horn was better than Boyd last night. Except for the nice crash of the net and a nice feed from a teammate for the first goal in the first five minutes, I didn't notice Horn as standing out ...

I know from a parent's perspective (on another sport not hockey, which I will not mention here) that I was always more nervous about the section final game to get to State. Second most nervous was winning the first round State game, which guaranteed two more games and TV time (no consolation bracket...

Some "Where are they now" folks

St. Thomas University's club hockey team finished sixth in the Central Region standings and will play Iowa in the regional playoffs on 2/27 in Chicago. The St. Thomas roster looks very familiar with metro players from the last few years. The U of M's team finished 13th in the rankings. http://www.ac...

After watching the game on TV last night, my take was that while Edina's first line was almost dominant during the first two periods on the offensive end, there wasn't much backchecking going on and Edina's defenders got worked more than a few times by Centennial's speed. Edina's second and third li...

A Hopkins parent posts pics from some of their games on a website. Here's the link to the Edina game. Can even tell it was hard hitting from these pictures. Fons got a workout!

Fun game to watch. Was impressed by the speed of the little guys from East. Got knocked off the puck some but you had to catch 'em first. Some nice passes and tips in front of the net. Pitlick looked strong and calm. East's penalty kill was clearly stronger than Centenniel's power play. Very aggress...

Hmmm. Doesn't sound like parents and athletes constitute an "official" source. I would think with all that the MSHSL went through to get Cretin into a conference, the conference would be unlikely to be able to kick them back out unless it were part of a larger reorganization of conferences...

Another option to keep in mind for those who want to continue playing the game post-high school is club hockey. A number of colleges (including the UofM and some D3 MIAC schools) have club hockey teams that play a pretty extensive competitive schedule. It is "pay to play" sort of like yout...

I can totally understand overshooting the "i" key and also hitting the "9" key. If we are going to be hyper-critical, it is the proofreading before hitting "submit" that deserves general condemnation.

Wow. Tough crowd.
