BlueLineSpecial, I'll wait and see if Karl has anything to add, but you didn't add anything to the discussion. Your distinction as to the source of "negative publicity" does nothing to identify any tangible effect it might have. You spoke for Karl and clarified nothing. As to my points act...

karl(east)"]I sure wasn't expecting this. Congrats to the STA administration for finally realizing that all this negative publicity probably wasn't a good thing.[quote] Negative publicity? Yes. Let's look at the many ways STA has suffered ill public opinion: ....year after year of enrollments r...

One step up, two steps back.

Mariucci's big sheet gives the speedy Knights an edge. However, their defensemen are so awful any offensive advantages are quickly negated.

Tonka wins 5-2 with few tense moments.

Mr. Announcer Guy, If the A tourney is, as you say, a "second fiddle" tourney, what the $@£# do you care who plays in it? The MSHSL, with input from all concerned parties, went to a two class system to involve more schools in a year end tourney. It has done exactly that. The fact you don't...

these were FREAK occurances. Extremely rare in the world of hockey. No need for the knee-jerk rush to implement these rule changes other than public relations. No. No. No. The extent of the injuries were extreme, and thank goodness they're rare. The actions that caused them, however, were unaccepta...

How, exactly, would you make the game safer? What exactly is your time frame? Gimme a number. Knee jerk reaction? Aren't two devastating...

To seek & destroy I ask: why wait? As many have said, rules to prevent these injuries have been in place for years. The MSHSL's actions give license to officials to freely and strongly enforce them. This action (we hope) also reduces objections from whiny coaches. As for divers and crybabies? I ...

I utterly agree with those who place part of the blame on players who put themselves in bad position to take a hit. However, this too goes back to the need for earlier and better coaching. If we're truly looking for an end to dangerous hits, let's do as soccer has done for many years and add suspens...

I hope officials DONT look to "soften" calls--calling them elbowing, roughing, etc. Doing so in the past has been a big part of the problem. Come down hard, come down NOW-when sentiment is on the side of officials. Sit offending players for ten minutes, or throw them out. Do this often, do...

Good work, Starmvp! Responsibility for conduct always has, and always will, rest on the players. However, it's only through strict referee enforcement ( aka "zero tolerance") that players/teams/coaches will experience enough consequence to change behavior. let's give the rule changes time ...

STA vs. Shattuck

"Observer" is right on here. SSM is a machine. They're very well coached, very fit, and committed to a very attractive brand of total hockey. If they had to, they'd hit double figures on any HS team in MN. Instead, they'll roll four lines and three sets of defense--all the while focusing o...

Only a very modest number of players go directly to D3 from high school. The market is so flooded with solid players from post-hs levels that all college programs have the luxury of selecting from a deep pool of seasoned applicants.* Here in Minnesota, a quick check of 2010/2011 MIAC rosters will sh...

March is a long way off, but the road to the State Championship runs through the east side of Duluth. Tonka Skippers are my pick to win Section 6AA, and make some tourney noise. They won't be flashy, but they'll be very solid on defense, deep, and they'll score enough to get by. BSM is a formula 1 r...

Neuuman and Scout716, both, make very important points. They're saying about the same thing, as well. As Scout says: The key issue is readiness . If a player is truly physically and emotionally ready to leave the HS game, a jump to the next level is the only move that makes hockey development sense....

The PRIMARY reason they win is because there are excellent hockey players that choose to go to school there. Shattuck is very frank with its Academy applicants. Prior to enrollment, parents and prospects meet with coaches and admissons staff to thoroughly evaluate where in a program a student may fit, or to determine if Shattuck is the right place for them. Tryouts are held just as they are in other school...

Shattuck's boys and girls hockey and soccer programs are not members of the MSHSL (MN State High School League), and therefore aren't eligible for MN Hs tourneys.
