It's the frickin' long intermission between the 3rd place game and the finals that gets me. Thanks Century and Burnsville  I have wondered that myself - Why the long intermission between these games? What does Century and Burnsville have to do with it? Yeah what's the Century Burnsville thing...

Re: District to Region to State...?!?
Is there no district 1, 7, 13, or 14? My kid plays peewee A and is in district 3. It appears as if they go to St. Cloud to play D4 & D5. It appears as if there is no D4 Peewee A? What happens then? It is my understanding that top 3 move out of districts to region but then what? There is a Distr...

It seems clear to me that the 4AA semifinals will be at Aldrich and both the the 4AA and 5AA finals will be at Marriucci. Aldrich at 3,000 capacity is not big enough for the finals, which typically draw 5,000 or more. Marriucci is not a good high school rink. The Olympic size ice sheet is too big, ...

It's significantly different. Reason being, a child can skate the length of the ice in about 10 seconds whereas it probably takes about 30 to run the length of a soccer or football field. Not only that, they have the option to glide part of the way in hockey. Comparing hockey's playing surface to a...

Stromboli: Very well said.
Youth coaches need to be providing options to players, not taking them away. The coach who won't let them dump isn't much better than the guy who won't let them dangle.

Clear Boards
The clear boards were part of the kitsch of the WHA and Minnesota Fighting Saints. I believe they were used the first year that the tournament moved to the Civic Center -- 1976.

JBlaze: Here is an old technique that I have used. It is basically the Sargent Hulka routine from Stripes. We had an incident where locker rooms were trashed (gatorade on the walls, oranges squashed on the floor, etc.). The team was called together and told that the behavior was unacceptable. And th...

White out
Rochester Century wore their home whites in warmups during last night's "away" game with John Marshall, supporting the white out . I understand other teams were going to do the same? I applaud the approach of enforcing a "standard of play." No matter what rules changes occur w.r....

Housley played in two tournamanets: '80 and '81. But the point is still valid -- no championships. I believe that Mayasich has four titles -- '48 - '51. Pot stirring question of the day: does Ikola belong in the list of top 10 players? Do you believe he was the best goaltender in the history of high...

Mayasich has four state titles, a ton of records and a nice post-high school career at the U of M. I don't see anyone else with those credentials. I think he's #1 on this list. I'm in the camp that believes the great players would be great in any era. Sheehy - 3 state titles and a 1 state runner-up...

Re: Dumb
USA Hockey has very few paid positions. What exactly do you propose the "money grab" is for? Is it to line the pockets of the shareholders? Or could it be to produce educational opportunities, and provide more opportunites for its members? The "money grab" proposition is a joke....

Maybe there are a few more old-timers from the early days of Minnesota HS hockey. Two names from the early 70's: Seems like there needs to be another goalie in the top 25 besides Ikola. Doug Long (Johnson) hasn't been mentioned. I think he still holds the tournament record for most saves (all games...

how does the VFW tourney work? How do you qualify? Are all teams elegible? Click on the link from Ram Hockey (above) and you'll see some more information. In a nutshell, the state is broken into 9 districts (not to be confused with MH districts). Every VFW sponsored bantam team is eligible to enter...
