Watchdog: I have to disgree with you about Waylon's comment. It is not okay to use kids names, even in the positive. In this case, it puts a lot of responsibility on the 10-y.o. goalie if the 98 Machine does not "own" the 98 Blades. The 98 Blades are a good team and about even with the 98 ...

D6 has a very sensible waiver rule that would work for the state. If a player lives in one D6 association district and goes to school in another, he can choose where he wants to play in his first traveling year, and he gets an automatic waiver. Wherever he plays the first year is his district. After...

98's. These kids are 9 and 10 years old. The only ones who should care about their hockey results are their families and teammates. Waylon, your last post should be deleted. No one should ever talk about one kid (who is named) helping a ten year old team "own" another young team. It is not...

Doglover is pretty much right on. MM has a pay to play team called the Select 14s. The tryout itself is expensive as is the trip. The teams have been crushed in past years because, like with Pride, MM takes whoever wants to pay and is loyal to its own. It is not an advanced team. If you really want ...

Last summer's results were pretty clear in the top 4. Blades: They won the Machine's tournament in August and finished second to LA in their own tournament (LSS and Predator /Machine combo teams finished 5-6 in that tourney). Icemen won duluth tourney and beat machine there. Lake Superior Stars beat...

From Quacker "The money that the refs would be payed is used to fund the Minn Hockey Officials Association camp that is run durning the same time as the Advanced 15s at St. Cloud." I don't know, but it looks like money that would have been paid to the refs was paid by the tourney to this c...

Gopher1, your math is way off. I think you will find the following is more accurate. My comments are underlined below. 4 teams per level * 11 levels * 4 games per team = 176 games/2 teams each = 88 total games Costs: Officials $6500 : Way too low. They use three at some levels, so $150/game is a goo...

To straighten out a few things;

-Fire kids are welcome at Super Series, prohibited from Selects.
-95 Fire kids were planning to play on several Major PW teams, but could not play because they are in nationals this week.

The following 95s averaged at least one point per game during the PWA State tournament. Its only three games, but here it is: (source is rinkwriter.com). #8-GR (4g,2A) #21-Edina (3G, 0A) #24-Edina (0G, 3A) #10-Wayz (0G, 3A) #11-Cloquet (3G, 0A) #4- Cloquet (1G, 1A)(two games)

It is not nearly as complicated as F61 makes it out to be. If the age criteria is met, Minnesota Hockey's competition committee can certify any team to compete in Nationals, at any level. Also, F61 has some facts wrong: Tier 1 is the rule, not the exception, across the USA. It is not just for places...

I think some associations would go with two "A" teams if the districts allowed them to go A1 and A2. As I understand it, the districts want them to be even. It really does not matter in the long run. I am in this for my kids to have fun. The good athletes that develop a passion for the ga...

Much to think about and I will add this. How does all this tie in with the thread last month about "mega-associations". A group there was advocating that the current A level needs to be further diluted by forcing the strongest associations to have two equal A teams. This will allow the sma...

Here is an interesting suggestion. I like the idea, but I can't take credit for it. Large associations form two A teams. Team A1 has players 1-15 and the best two goalies. Team A2 has players 16-30 and goalies 3&4. Then all the A1 teams form a single district, playing most of their games against...

Wayzata has the best 8th grade hockey class in the state. They are also very strong at PW and Squirts. I think the HS team will be a contender when these classes hit, even if they lose a few guys. Of course, their outstanding goaltender is now playing in the USHL as a junior. This is a tough loss to...

It can be looked from both ends-How many D1 players were great as kids. My guess is that most, but not nearly all, were good at a young age. Or you can look at it the other way: Of kids who are great squirts, how many go on to be D1 players. This percentage is far smaller, because there are so few D...

The old WHA did this. Anyone know of any opinions from that era?

Boogey: You are correct. As I said above, Burnout is not an MM-only issue. It is also the parents job to prevent it. Some MM kids and some not-MM kids will burn out. That is inevitable. If you push any group of kids too hard, some of them will quit. Watch for the signs of burn out(lack of emotion an...

This season, three kids with offers to play quit the 95 Machine because they were burned out. Despite multiple offers from other teams, none of these three are playing on AAA teams this spring. Burn out really does happen. You will not see it until the kids get to be 12-14 years old. Be careful.
