Lamp, that is a great post. Unfortunately i think that Minnesota isn't alone with this problem. I know other teams in the Brick are faced with the same problem we are to a certain extent. Politics play a huge role in hockey, even when they are only 10! Talk to our friends up north, they fight the s...

I actually like summer hockey, The ability to move to a team that suits your development curve is a very good thing. If summer hockey had a rule that said you must set your roster by a certain date the whole wild west aspect would be fixed. Most people in summer hockey are happy with it just the wa...

How about your player can openly transfer to another association that wants him but only to go up a level of play? Your B2 can go play B1 down the road, your B1 can go play A down the road but your A can't go to another A and your B can't go to another B? Might work. The associations would have to ...

First, this has been a great thread to read. The posts have kept focus on the issues and haven't allowed this topic to morph into a typical internet forum flamefest. Great points on both sides. I keep reading about how MN Hockey has to change the association model. NPC makes the argument that the ch...

Hey Spin, I'm just trying to find answers. - My question was if being in a small pond helped. - They are very dominating youth associations. Moorhead has four this year and plenty former players - His brother had 1 point... I was showing the drop. The numbers for those type of MEGA programs are ver...

Interesting. You never know where the ones that make it to the top are going to come from. You would think a bunch would come out of the Edina-like programs. Goes to show how much of a difference there is between levels and the growth/development rate these kids need to continue to make it to the N...

Maybe I misunderstood but $270 for 13 hours.... sounds pretty cheap to me actually considering you have squirt camps that charge $350 for a meager 10 hours of ice everywhere. You have other camps that charge more than that. You have AAA teams, which I am guessing your son was a part of at some poit...

Lucky, was not getting personal with you or attacking you but was (to be honest) attacking your point of view. I don't know if you have a 4 foot tall basketball kid but if you and and he is having those troubles then I guess I got personal and I apologize. Your ideas about the social engineering of...

The first thing a medical professional will tell you is not move. In a serious medical situation, I could see kids trying to pop up knowing that they'll have to sit, or worse yet, get barked at by a Bernie type personality. It's a recipe for disaster.... Exactly the point. If it's actually a seriou...

St. Louis played 64 games. Thunderbirds 72. Honeybaked 72. Capitals 63. Buffalo 67. California 70. Comcast 71. Gilmour 64. Yeah, they're really catering to teams that don't play together through the season. If the Tier I Midget championship comes to be dominated by teams that aren't intact for the ...

I don't get it... There are so many people on this board who rip on Shattuck or Tier One teams who have NEVER had a kid play for either. If you don't have a kid who has played in these leagues than you can't really have a valid argument, can you? There are many different reasons families choose wha...

That depth means that MN makes an all star team from 50 guys and WI makes their team from 22. The top guys out of MN's 50 will be better than Wi's top 22. If you deny that you probably went to St. Thomas or some other weak minded private school. How do you come to this conclusion? Does having 50 gu...

Re: Wisconsin vs Minnesota
Doesn't the number of "pro players" or 6 to 1 D-1 players, show that Minnesota's top of the top, tippy top, top players would average out better than Wisconsin's top 16? Is this group different than other Wisconsin groups? No on the first question and yes on the second. Ignorance is bliss.

Re: Wisconsin vs Minnesota
We all know that minnesota high school produces more college and pro players. They have a larger number of elite hockey players too. So we know that minnesota has more good hockey players. The question that I want to debate is If you made a team with the top high school players from the whole state...

Dark, I don't think what's best for the kids is the issue- of course we all want that. It's the path we take to get there is the issue. Fred is a passionate hockey guy that's just giving us some info to chew on. (thanks, Fred). These studies are ok but not something to go all in on. Do the global w...

It compared two leagues with checking (in Alberta tracking 74 teams with 1,108 kids or an average of 15 players per team) and one with no checking (in Quebec tracking 76 teams with 1,046 players average of under 14 players on a team). The study assumes that the kids are peewee ages (11-13) and does...

He makes my point. The USA Hockey Youth Development Director is basing his rational to eliminate checking at the peewee level on his perception that 11-12 year old brains have not developed and can’t be taught how to position their bodies. If that is true, how can you teach the same 11-12 year olds...
